posing some ideas for experiments on husbandry, feeding, etc.

As I was feeding all of my critters yesterday morning, I realized that some have been inadvertently trained to expect food when they see tongs. My bearded dragon is the most obvious in this. He sees me reach for his tongs and he’s rushing over to the door for his bugs. Stella (my old veiled lady...

    Friday photos

I breed or grow what I can. I have colonies of discoid roaches, superworms and mealworms (I often donate mealworms to the local wildlife hospital), working on my method for waxworms. I buy & grow a few hundred silkworm eggs about once a year and let a good number become moths to provide me with...

crickets started breeding in my roach colony

Roaches do like a bioactive set up, and I found mine at least breed better in one. You don’t want the crickets though, so are going to have to redo it.

    He keeps coming out

Yes, I have one in a 4’ long/high and 2’ deep and he runs to come out all the time just to sit on my hand and stare at me. 🤷‍♀️

    He keeps coming out

Maybe try building him a free range area to offer him some stimulation and enrichment. Just be sure to supervise and keep other pets away. It can be as simple as some plants and branches in front of a window.

crickets started breeding in my roach colony

Wow. Odd! Are you certain they’re crickets? Regardless, go thru and remove all the roaches and put them in a clean bin without soil and new egg flats. You’ll have to look super carefully for nymphs. Toss the old soil and bin outside. If you want to keep the bin, just a good soap and water...

Next up are my sweet little leopard geckos. The handsome Handsome was too squirmy to get a decent pic of. He did graciously display that sexy chunky tail. I imagine he would drive the lady leos wild with his good looks. 💗 Who needs fancy morphs when the wild type is so stunning! My other...

    Friday photos

Well, it’s Saturday now, but I took the pics yesterday. It’s all my critters. Chameleons first though. The always gorgeous Stella. Not even a papilloma can mar her beauty, at least in my eyes. I love love love this old lady. I’ve had to make some accommodations for her aging abilities and...

    Vet Appointments!

Well, usually the vet just holds the animal and looks at them. A good and experienced vet will listen with stethoscope and may gently palpate areas. They are primarily looking for signs of mbd, skin/scale health, bright eyes, alertness, muscle development, range of motion of extremities...

    Mesh surfing and weird colouring

What is your background and walls made of? It looks like expanding foam. If it is and there’s a thick enough layer, you can cut branches to fit relatively snugly and then wrap thin wire around the ends, poking the wire ends thru the foam and tying off on the outside. If it is not a solid...

Yes…that reminds that I see a lot of target training using brightly colored balls with monitor lizards in many YouTuber videos. Monitors are said to be highly intelligent though.

trying to find a 4x2x4 screen enclosure

This might be the best price to be found at current. https://www.petsmart.com/reptile/habitats-and-decor/terrariums/zoo-med-reptibreeze-open-air-reptile-screen-cage-14983.html Petco doesn’t have any even in stock, much less on sale. They do however have a cute chameleon puzzle...

posing some ideas for experiments on husbandry, feeding, etc.

One idea is keeping one chameleon in a fully bioactive set up and the other not. But, what differences would one expect to see and how would anything even be measured? Chameleons aren’t very good test subjects. Providing enrichment for them is a slightly different matter. From what I’ve seen of...
