Ok so the Harlequin Bug aka many other things (Murgantia histrionica), is said to be part of the sting bug family, though Wikipedia says it's "Non-toxic", has anyone tried using this as like exotic treat feeders? Asking because I have like a free supply thanks to my GF's Mom lol. At first I was not going to use them at all but after looking for info on them and their toxicity, nothing dangerous was found!
So today I am using a rescue I took in that I named Absolom (Cause he had a large abscess) to test this out. I fed him 2, probably not enough o kill him even if they were toxic. So let me know if you had experience with them, otherwise stay posted if you see these lil guys outside on the reg then this might be some free, easy to catch treats for your chams!
(BTW Absolom has never zapped food so fast omg! He def seems to likes them)

Have to be cautious of what the wild caught beetles eat some plants that they eat may be toxic. You can always gut load and colonize them for future feeders

I'm going to guess spellcheck turned "stink bug" into sting bug...

Probably just have a bitter taste, so the chameleon will probably try one, and not like it.

CHEERS!

Don't know if they are toxic or not, but as @Andee said that coloration would concern me. They are definitely not trying to hide, so what are they advertising?

Final Findings!!! Good news!

First off if you read the Wiki page it does say this literally "They are non-toxic, despite their "warning coloration" which mimics bagrada bugs, and can be safely fed to poultry or pet reptiles or amphibians." (Below is a pic of the ACTUALLY toxic cousin the Bagrada Bug)

so in closing these are mimickers of another Harlequin type Bug that is toxic but these particular ones (The Harlequin Cabbage bug) are not, I will continue to watch for any signs of toxicity issues in Absolom but his one hearty bastard lol, just a reminder I got him free as a rescue but he had a big abscess on his back as well as a mouth infection. Thanks to antibiotics I administer by syringe he is looking much better and now seems to love these lil buggers and has not changes behavior yet. I'll wait a few more days, but so far hes great!
