Am just wandering if anyones been bit by there chams i mean i never see teath when mine opens his mouth how painful is it?

Its the most excruciating thing ever. Seriously, some lizards are designed to lightly grab and they hope you or the prey wiggle enough to lacerate themselves. Not the cham. Its designed to have a bunch of pointy fish teeth in a hydraulic vise. You wont get lacerations or loose a finger, but it might get down to the bone and be a thumper for days.

PS: never been bitten by a cham out of fear or defense, Only for medical procedures or inspection. And then they latch on and crunch!

Oh god i never thought it would be like that hopefully he will always respect the hand that feeds him :)

I have been biten by mine just once and I have felt far worse pain. Maybe it liked me more than the one that bit you but it really wasnt that bad. Broke some skin but nothing that a hand wash, antibotic, and a band aid didn't cure. Not like it will scar you.

My panthers have never given me a really bad bite. My veiled I am super careful about. When he was just 2.5 months old or so, he managed to scrape up my finger pretty bad when he bit hard and started to shake his head from side to side. Since then I am sure to be careful when he gets upset. Veiled have particularly strong bites because the jaw muscles go up into the casque (and obviously they have big casques, so they have more muscle!) Chameleons are capable of biting so hard and shaking their head at the same time that they can rip/tear skin. There have even been people who needed stitches after.

That is pretty rare though. Most chameleons will only give a warning bite that pinches and might scrape the skin a little if you move. If your chameleon bites you, NEVER move your hand or whatever it bit. You risk damaging the animal and making the bite worse for you. Just let it happen.

they do have very small teeth. A casual bite feels like being pinched with 2 pieces of sandpaper.
A serious bite from a full grown veiled can be painful and break skin but they usually give you some warning way before they bite..
Most injuries come from 'knee jerk' pulling away reflex as they bite.

Bites are pretty rare, and if they do really mean to bite (as opposed to thinking your food!) then you probably deserved it!!

Depends on the cham, Ive been bitten by a cb male that was only trying to warn me to back off and leave him alone. Really didnt hurt only left a small v shaped red mark that went away within 24hrs. Now I have a wc faly that if he can get you he will make sure to leave a lasting impression, with his teeth. lol He's drawn blood on me several times. (No stiches needed though) Whats weird is he wont bite if Im wearing gloves but if Im bare handed he will attempt to get me every time.
