My first morning after giving up the girls and what a sigh of relief. I was so worried Alice might be hinting at nesting. I couldn't tell if she was hinting or hunting as other parts of the day she would be way up at the top of the cage as usual. Anyhow moving forward with the boys.
I slept in today and didn't get to the lights until 8:30 a.m. I am going to have to get a timer, that's really unusual for me and I suspect its because its summer. I stayed up until 1 a.m. so then slept in. I'm not sure if it affects the chams as much as the hedgies. If hedgies don't get their light on a timely manner they think the days are growing shorter and slowly try to slip into hibernation. (which is not good! This is my first summer with the hedgies.
I turned on the lights and putzed around a bit before misting. Jolly was on the ground which I thought was unusual but I wonder if he doesn't feel secure enough on the branches. He just has one bendy-branch coiled across. Today I'll check out bamboo branches, they were recommended to me last night. When I started misting he immediately climbed onto his pothos. It is super small, I have a larger pot and I think I'll get soil today as well and repot both small pothos into a larger pot for him since he has more space in his cage bottom.
Swyft was a brilliant green again today. He moves towards the back as I spray the cage and does not like to be sprayed himself. Jolly likes it and will actually move towards the spot where his old misting system was and lets me spray as much as I want. Its really cool to see they have different personalities like my other pets do.
Jolly's at the top of his cage now, hanging on the screen, bottom two feet on the highest branch, he wants UP. UP! I'll measure the cage and get those sticks for him.
Bf is visiting in two weeks, he will help me with the pvc pipe project of building a bigger cage for Jolly. He says the pvc-cutting scissors are only $15 and I'm sure I would use them for something else eventually. Heck, I could probably build a cool hedgie cage with pvc and screen as well. I'll have to research that.
I am going to find a calendar to record feedings, dustings, cleaning of the cages, weigh-ins, I still need to read on how to weigh them, etc. So much to learn!
With the hedgies I put them in a kleenex box. They sit still, hunkered down, it works well.
