repashy experiment

Allan very generously has given me some bug burger, water crystal stuff, and the all in one repashy supplement to try. This fits very nicely as I was already starting a little experiment due to my queer success without using preformed vitamin A.

I am going to keep my original dubia colony and all my chameleons except one on my original routine of feeding gutloading and supplementing (see all previous food log entries).

But I have moved one young adult male panther onto the repashy supplement roughly twice a week, with use of a plain calcium now and then on other days. This is in addition to his dubia coming from a separate colony (I have split my dubia colony into two) which will eat Repashy Bug Burger, instead of my normal gutloads. I might occassionally give this new dubia colony some fresh greens or whatever, but primarily they will eat bug burger. All other feeders will be kept and fed the same as before, and offered same to both.

One of the chameleons on the "old" regime is a brother to the one on the new regime. Their same size cages are side by side, and they share the UVB tube going across the top of both. They have the same watt heat bulb. They drink from the same type of home made dripper. So a fairly direct comparision is possible.

Frankly, I dont expect to see much difference between the two animals. Certainly not for many months.

But I'm looking forward to the 6 months mark. Because if I see no difference between the two animals at that point (or if the repashy animal seems healthier somehow), I'll know the Bug Burger and the all in one supplements are easy peezy alternatives.
My life is so busy these days, every easy but still good alternative I can find is awesome. :) I doubt I'll ever fully cease using some fresh veg and such, but having an easy quality gutload available would be great. Also, having more choices when it comes to supplements is great too.

I REALLY look forward to you reports on this study. I give you high props for doing it, it will only further the knowledge of the community.

Thanks clarkrw3. Its nice to know Im not nuts for wanting to do this, that others may find the experiment interesting too.

I have to say, first impressions are that the bug burger is very strange. It does not feel natural to feed this odd geletin-like substance to anything. But the roaches seem to have no concerns about it! I put a small amount of some normal gutload (dandelion leaves and some dry alfalfa) next to a blob of the bug burger, and the dubia showed no preference for one to the other - both were eaten right up. I pulled three hissers from their colony and offered them a choice of foods. They appeared to prefer the alfalfa and dandelion, but did also eat up the bug burger.

Found out wild caught grasshoppers will eat bug burger. Not enthusiastically, but certainly they were eating it. :)

great blog sandra cant wait to see the results...
thanks for all you do

can't wait to hear your findings. from all the reading I have done for the repashy products, I feel confident using their products.

ive been using the repashy all in one supplement for my Veildie for about 5 months now and have nothing bad to say about the product and the people from repashy. I also have 2 crested geckos, and feed them the repashy diet, along with a live diet, and they eat the Repashy more than they do the live food. They're very through in the research they do for their diets and do a great job of creating the perfect balance of minerals and supplements for any kind of critter :)

Im glad it is working well for you.

Would you mind sharing the frequency of use, what feeders you use it on/with, and what you gutload those feeders with?

Could you please tell me the exact Repashy product you're using? - I would like to experiment with it, but am finding myself confused by the profusion of products (Calcium Plus; SuperCal NoD, LoD, MeD, HyD; Supervite). Much thanks.

It is Repashy Superfoods Calcium Plus (their all-in-one insect dusting vitamin and calcium supplement powder)
