Repashy Experiment Month 2 - November 2011

See http://www.chameleonforums.com/blog...nt-diary-repashy-experiment-october-2011.html for background info.

This is the prey intake log for a single male panther chameleon for which I am periodically using the Repashy Calicum plus supplement product.

So far, no noticable impact to using the Repashy supplement. Have found crickets dont much eat the Repashy Bug Burger, thus I am now only giving it to the roaches (which love it).

Supplement use is indicated by:
C = calcium (a mix of about 50% RepCal and 50% Sticky tongues MineralO)
R = Repashy Calcium Plus (calicum and vitamins, including D3 and preformed A)
V =Vitamins (RepCal Herptivite)

Gutloading of crickets and terrestrial isopods this month were primarily carrot, butternut squash, apple, pear, dandelion greens, arugula, mustard greens, alfalfa, seeds and nuts, kelp powder, spirulina and small amounts of other assorted things.

Roaches received the same as the above, plus Repashy Bug Burger as indicated by [BB]

Stick bugs are primarily eating blackberry bramble this time of year.

Superworms and mealworms are kept / fed as indicated in this previous blog entry.

Butterworms were given steamed squash, which they ate only a little of before being fed off.

I believe the store bought silkworms were raised on chow (I no longer breed them for myself). I also gave them a few green dandelion leaves to eat just prior to being fed off.

Comments

I have now sold the chameleon that was the subject of the Repashy experiment. So only two months of data rather than the 6 months originally planned.

Have decided that Bug Burger is quite good as a roach gutload, but not overly useful as a cricket gutload. Crickets simply do not much like Bug Burger, and eat very little of it. I want my crickets "fully loaded" so I will stick with making my own cricket gutload / using fresh vegetables etc. I will likely purchase more Bug Burger once I run out of this batch, simply because it is so easy and handy and a prepared batch lasts a month easily in the fridge - excellent if I am rushed or have a pet sitter. A good choice for anyone to have on hand.

The Repashy Calicum plus product seems good. I fully intend to start using this as much as once weekly for ALL of my chameleons. While I have it, I will periodicially also use RepCal Herptivite (though I may not purchase more when this container expires). I will continue to use RepCal Calcium and Sticky Tongues Calcium as and if needed on other days of the week. (I only supplement when such is needed, not according to some arbitrary unthinking daily routine). I will continue to rely on using a wide range of well gutloaded feeders as the proper source of nutrition for my chameleons.
