Day 7 - One week of happiness

Zeppelin came into our lives one week ago. He is a healthy panther ambilobe male. I hope to post updates about him and things I learn along the way. He is my first chameleon and am proud to be his momma!

Our first day was a busy one. He spent most of his time on a bamboo branch in his cage. He took some time before beginning to explore his new home. He made his way to the top, sitting on the hibiscus. This has become his favourite perch and he sleeps on it every night. He did not eat, presumably too stressed.

The next morning he was very hungry! He ate about 7 crickets first thing in the morning. These were covered in calcium, no D3. He later ate another healthy serving of crickets. I was very pleased.

Since then he has made his way around the enclosure many times and loves the branches, leaves, and screen on the inside which he uses to climb on.

This is keeping him very active and helping him keep up a great appetite.

Over the weekend he shed, which was conveniently soon after getting him! I'll be expecting this every 3.5-4 weeks until he is mature. His eyes were the toughest part to see shed as he seemed very annoyed and rubbed his head against branches and leaves most of the day. Keeping moisture levels high, he shed by 2 in the afternoon. He must have been relieved!

This first week has been a learning experience for both of us. He is very docile and harmless. He is hardly nervous, and gets very excited for food. He is a great reptile and am looking forward to the next update I can make on him.

Congrats on your new chameleon. He is a little cutie. They have a way of working their way right into our hearts.
