August is almost over so I thought I'd go ahead and post the August growth record. As expected, Leo's growth is started to slow down a bit, but he still has some growing to do. Of course I believe chameleons have indeterminate growth, although someone can correct me on that if I'm wrong. He is about 9 months old as of 8-21-2010.
This month I finally broke down and bought a Mistking! It sure does make watering a lot easier. I was using a dripping system using a peristaltic pump. This worked fine most of the time, but this month actually there were a lot of problems with it (the hoses got caught up into the pump and it seized). This happened during the worst possible time while I was on vacation, and my poor friend who volunteered to watch the chams had to make a new dripper system on the fly. She did a great job! Needless to say, she has now quit as my future cham-sitter due to the added stress. Can't say I blame her actually, with all the bugs to feed, and then dripper problems too.
Back to the Mistking, I now have it timed to mist 4 times a day, at 8, 11, 2, and 5. Most of them are for 2 or 3 minutes, but 11 is for a little bit longer. You can actually see the misting live if you want on my ustream feed: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/cham-cam (no guarantees this will be up when you're reading this, but surely for a while yet)
Now for his growth update for this month. Here's his total weight record with this month's new measurements in bold:
4/10/2010 8.2 g
5/04/2010 13.8 g
6/05/2010 29.6 g
6/12/2010 36.9 g
6/27/2010 57.0 g
7/18/2010 82.2 g
7/31/2010 102.3 g
8/07/2010 113.8 g
8/15/2010 120.5 g
8/21/2010 127.1 g
8/28/2010 128.7 g
I went ahead and graphed this data in Excel, I couldn't help myself I guess, my inner scientist took over. I am also including the weights for Drake, our Jackson's cham. As you can see when we first got Drake on May 1st, Drake and Leo were about the same size, but that didn't last for very long. This shows the basic difference in growth between a panther and a xanth. I think they are approximately the same age. As for length I estimate that Drake is about 4.5" snout to vent and Leo is about 7". The first pic shows him on my hand and that allowed for a good estimate on length.
Here's the graph:
Here are some pics for this month:
EDIT: There was an error in the first graph I posted, I've replaced it with this fixed version. I also added in the chameleon age each month too.
