After several weeks of thought, I decided it would be best to run a humidifier along with my mistking. The Las Vegas climate is simply too dry and kept my cages at a solid 20% humidity, even after mistings with the mistking, my hydrogrometers were only increasing by a few percentages. I had already tried increasing the mistings and duration, but that created little change. I also tried many other things, like taping trashbags to the side. But in the end, I knew that a humidifier alongside a mistking would greatly improve my humidity levels and therefore better suit my chameleons. I tried to find instructions for how to create one, but for some reason I had difficulty finding the right threads. I searched through several members profiles to try and find pictures of their custom humidifiers. Among the several searches, I find that the crane humidifer was one of the most common types. I decided to purchase the same humidifer and along various types of PVC piping.
Here are the materials needed:
1) Penguin Crane Humidifier
1) 3 inch to 2 inch PVC coupler
1) 1 3/4 inch coupler
1) 1 3/4 inch to 3/4 inch conversion
X) 3/4 inch PVC tubbing, elbows, Ts, couplers, etc.
Here are the steps:
1) Take the penguin head off the humidifier and hot glue the 3 in to 2 inch PVC coupler onto the top of the humidifier (2 inch side needs to be facing up).
2) Hot glue the 1 3/4 inch coupler to the inside of the 3 in to 2 inch coupler (there should be a groove inside of the 3 in to 2 inch coupler, that groove is meant to support the 1 3/4 inch coupler), the hot glue will prevent possible evaporation leaks and provides added support.
3) Place the 1 3/4 in to 3/4 inch conversion inside the 1 3/4 inch coupler. You may or may not glue it in. I choose not to, so that it is easier to disassemble.
4) Cut and size your 3/4 tubing to fit to the shape of your cage and then attach the tubing to the humidifier.
Note: In step two you may instead use a different size coupler to fit completely snug inside of the 3 in to 2 in conversion. It all depends on how you and whats available at the store. If made correctly, the setup is a guaranteed airtight seal and there should be no humidifier mist leaking out. Overall, my humidifer functions unbelievably well and makes a much bigger difference in humidity.
