Figured I'd make a blog for general things you will need when aquiring a Chameleon! Though keep in mind... different species of Chameleons can sometimes require different things... but this a general idea of what you are looking into.
You will need:
-CAGE:
*Adult -24w-24d-48H/ Juvenile -16w-16d-30H
-LIGHTING:
*UVB light-5.0 Fluorescent tube
(stretching the width of the cage)
*House light with reflector dome
(used for heat)
-DRIP SYSTEM or MISTER:
*The little dripper or a cup with a pinhole in it
*Timed mister- Mistking, Habbamist,etc...
(a mister helps with your humidity)
-TEMPERATURE
*Digital Thermometer + Humidity guage
*Spray bottle
(You want to mist OFTEN to keep humidity up)
-VARIETY of FEEDERS
*Crickets, Dubias, Fruit Flys, Superworms etc...
-NUTRIENTS
*Calcium without D3
(rep-cal, Exoterra....etc)
*Calcium With D3
(Rep-cal +d3, Exoterra +D3...etc..)
*Multivitamin
(Rep-cal Herptivite, Zoomed Reptivite)
*Gutload for feeders
(Cricket crack, flukers...fresh fruit and veggies)
-SHELTER
*Vines
(flukers...etc..)
*Live plants
(Ficus...umbrella plant...hibiscus...etc)
*Some fake plants
(You dont want to use if your cham eats it)
*Laying Bin if you have a female
(a deep bin or trash can with moist sand or soil)
-FOOD DISH
*Plastic or Stone dish
(Deep enough so the food wont jump out)
-NO SUBSTRATE
-NO WATERFALL
-ONLY CERTAIN PLANTS
-NO POKEY OBJECTS
So that was just a "GENERAL" idea of what you need to get.... Though you should definitely do much more extensive research...this isn't just a walk in the park...you have a life that depends fully on you to keep them alive. Your Chameleons can not talk to you, so you need to observe well. This is not a cheap hobby. You have to keep in mind to save for check ups, Emergency care, and all the supplies and feeders you will be feeding them. If you put in all the effort and time for these beautiful creatures you will be rewarded greatly. Happy Chaming and keep your guys + gals healthy!
{P.S. -Make sure to let me know if I left anything out!}
