Welcome to the return of the Chameleon Hour!
For those new to the Chameleon Hour let me introduce what is going on! Every other Friday at 5PM on Youtube I present an hour (give or take) of a chameleon keeper variety show. During this time there are video segments of various topics that are of interest to anyone who loves chameleons. It isn't your standard YouTube video!
The Chameleon Hour premieres on YouTube every other Friday at 5PM PST. It is, of course, available for viewing anytime after that, but I am live in the chat for that first showing. So, I invite you to come by the next one and talk with me while the video is running! The day after, Saturday at 12 Noon PST on Youtube I hold a live session where we can talk about what went on during the show.
And then I enter a blog post here so that we can continue the conversation throughout the week!
This week, Blue, the Yellow-lipped Parson's Chameleon, and I introduced a segment from the forests of Madagascar where I came across a female panther chameleon digging a hole to lay her eggs. I was able to observe her, measure the hole depth, and learned that they will return to a hole if disturbed.
The author, Bill Strand (me!), and Blue, the Yellow-lipped Parson's Chameleon
The image above shows the female Panther Chameleon in the final stages of filling her egg lying hole back up. The "moat" of cleared leaves around the site was done by me to be able to find the site again. The cleared area directly around her was done by her hole covering actions.
Next I discuss the question "What Chameleon species should I work with?" from the perspective of both the beginner and the experienced keeper.
Spoiler alert: The Carpet Chameleon is high on the list of desirable species to work with!
For a husbandry "hint & tip" I talk about using the double pot method to build up your cages. I introduced this method many years ago, but it has been so useful over the years that it is worth highlighting for the newcomers to the community!
And, finally, the main event is an interview with Elizabeth Vasquez of Propagated Perfection and we talk about how to keep our chameleon cage plants alive. It all comes down to the proper light and the proper hydration. The good news is that the ideal indoor chameleon conditions give excellent growing conditions for the common house plants. She runs us through a checklist of things to look for to make sure we are getting a healthy plant to start off with and then what to look out for as far as under/over watering and under/over lighting.
I hope you enjoy just sitting for a spell and enjoying talking about chameleon stuff!
The full Chameleon Hour was release on YouTube. The interview with Elizabeth was also released as a podcast episode on the Chameleon Academy Podcast. You can watch on YouTube or listen with any podcasting app. But, both will be embedded here so you do not have to leave the Chameleon Forums to enjoy this content!

Watch the show or listen in to the podcast and then let's talk about all this here in the discussion tab.
Here are some things we can talk about.
What do you think of the egg laying observation?
What are your experiences with adding a second species or starting a chameleon breeding project?
Do you have any questions about the double pot method?
Have you have trouble keeping your chameleon cage plants alive? What do you think is the problem?
Do you have any tips for people who have trouble keeping plants alive?
The YouTube live session will happen this afternoon on the Chameleon Academy channel on YouTube at 12 noon PST. Once it is completed I will embed it here for you to enjoy anytime you have time!
Thanks for spending this time with me! I'll see you in the comments section!
