Pascals vet adventure

pascal has been in and out of the vets a lot lately
i noticed one of his eyes was shut, it was nearing his bed time, so rather than worry about it, i decided to go with what my mom (not a chameleon owner, just, mom) said, that he had gone to sleep with just the one eye. although obviously this was rubbish.
the next day i panicked on here, as maybe you know, emailed another expert and got an assortment of valuable info and bullshit, and so ended up taking him to the shop he came from to see if they could tell me what was up with him. the said it was probably a scratch and to stick some broline drops on it, or ring their advised vet.
i could not get the broline drops, nor could i get to that particular vet. so i registered myself at my local vets, they dont have an experienced reptile vet but one of their vets does own a tortoise and have some reptile knowledge so we saw her. she was really lovely, straight away she said she was in no way an expert and the likely hood is she could have a look, give me something that might help with the irritation, and the number for another vet. it was a lovely experience because she had never worked with a chameleon before and pascal was the perfect happy example of a baby chameleon, looking shy and scared to begin with but growing in confidence as the minutes went by, crawling up her arm, looking at everything, being fussy about where to put his feet. the vet brought in another vet because they had had a bad day and pascal could cheer the other vet up too. it cost £25, but was well worth the money. and armed with my 1:100 iodine : water and vet phone number we went home. pascal fell asleep on the journey as it was past his bed time.
the next day, we went to the vet i could not get to. we saw a bloke who was experienced with reptiles and said he sees up to 10 reptiles a day. he was The Business. he picked up pascal the way i have not seen a chameleon handled before - round the middle with his two hingers. pascal then said his first words - one big angry hiss errupted from his tiny mouth and vet used this as an opportunity to check out his mouth (which was fine) then took him off to sedate his eye, open it, and see what the problem was. the problem, was a small infection that needed eye drops. the iodine had not worked, but these 3 times daily eye drops would work in the next week. he told me why it was ok to hold pascal the way he was doing, told me that against what the internet says, chameleons like being handled and love exploring things, including people, and that theyre actually pretty hardy animals until they get sick, but i had brought him in pretty early on in the infection stage and so he is going to be fiiiine. this cost me £45.
so all in all, £70 and a happy chameleon.
