Shedding and Hibiscus

His tail shedded, that was its issue.

Today I bought Swyft a beautiful red hibiscus! They were on sale at Lowe's for only $18 and a ton of them in good shape. I repotted it into a larger pot, put the pot on a tote lid for drainage, and then the whole thing on a chair that I don't mind being outside.

I had quite the time getting Swyft out to the plant, though, and I hope it doesn't stress him out going back and forth. I ended up using a short bamboo stick, then once he was on it guiding it to a small pet carrier that I have for the hedgehogs. (cute, zippered, screen windows soft-sided) then I carried him outside in that, opened the flap and he immediately crawled to the plant. To return home I did the same thing and he seemed more at ease the second time.

I don't zipper it shut, just guide him in, hold the door closed with my hand long enough to get him across the living room and outside to the plant.

He was going after the pill bugs on the plant so to distract him I offered him a couple of crickets instead. I guess he couldn't have been too stressed if he was eating out in public like that. He had already had dubias for breakfast so I was surprised he was acting hungry.

I forgot his mister so couldn't mist him and I wasn't about to leave him alone to run grab it. He was really active, so I moved him from the porch (I felt like he was eying the porch railing and post to the roof) onto a step with nothing around it and the step was half shade half sun. Even then he was being active crawling to the bottom as if he was going to take a walk. At one point I walked over slowly, put my palm towards him and he turned and crawled back into the plant. What concerns me though is that he would have taken off easily if I hadn't seen him wandering down. I'm going to research what others are doing for free-range outdoor time besides saying a prayer the entire time like I was.
