Gecko Enclosures

Hey, i have 1.1 crested geckos, and have seperated them, but now i want to make a 10 gallon live tank :) I already have a 33 gallon live tank, with 3 plants, Vines, Sticks.. and a cave..

Just want some people to post some ideas and cool features that you think the geckos will like :)

So far i've just dont silicone and then stuck Coconut husk to the back side of the enclosure.

Question : Should i put coco husk on All 4 sides, do you think the gecko would feel More safe in that enviroment?

What type of plants do YOUR geckos like? ive only got a few ficus's in mine, which didnt bush out mmuch just grew taller.

Thanks alot - any tips would be much appreciated.

ALSO. Can you post pics? :)

Small dark 'close' places to hide will keep them happy, most geckos are Agoraphobic.

I learned something today.

My gecko is a burrower, my female cresty is always digging and sleeps underground, all the time, and then at night she digs her way back up.. any idea on a "Small dark close place' to get / make jj?

Thanks alot.

JJ.

I know you have a few different species of lizards and i think geckos, do you mind posting pics?

my geckos seem to like this spot i made, its just in the dirt, i dug about 2 inches or so down, and covered it with a fake Fern leaf. theres about 4 of these hiding dens around the enclosure, they really use that lots. or as i said, she will just burrow.

Potplant bases with a peice broken from the side make great gecko hides!, broken peices of pot or bark peices, anything flat dark, not too spacious inside where the gecko can feel safe from predators. :)

they love these things too

ones like this are good

They really seem to like flat spaces though. In the wild they use holes, under bark, rock ledges ,caves etc.

Will take some fresh pics soon :)

Your last picture, i have one of those but they dont use it, they preffered flat spaces where you dont think they will fit.. I will go find bark today and bake it.

Thanks

EDIT :

My geckos really like this thing i made, its like my enclosure, it has coco husk siliconed to the sides, but this is a deli cup about an inch deep, i siliconed coco husk to the outside making it look something like a stump, and flipped it over, and now theres an aired cave underground, and the girl burrowed into it, and if i need to find her, shes mostly there :p

Glass Bottle / Hiding Hut?

I just got thinking about making a hut out of a bottle.

Its an "Arizona Iced Tea" glass bottle.

The lid opening is about an inch in diameter, the gecko could fit through it.. and i could silicone some coco husk or plantation soil on the outside, to make it look natural, as well as making it a nice dark cave.. would this be alright?

Does anyone think it would work, or think it would be wort trying it out?

There is no sharp edges or corners that can harm the animal. It seems perfectly safe.. and i have a "Hill" in my enclosure where i can put it, so it looks like a natural cave :)

I would be worried about the gecko getting in and not coming back out or not being able to get back out.

Wow, those are Beautiful, the babys are really cute! Thats a huge enclosure!
very cool :) thanks for sharing.

Those are so interesting... hows there bark sound? OR do they even bark haha..

I love there colours! Very cool species.

Yes they bark, its a high pitched squeaky noise, I sometimes wander out to the kitchen where they live at night, and hear them, its interesting just to listen in the dark on nights when it rains, they do it alot then, probly planning on going hunting for insects they expect after rain. When I mist them every other night, they do it after aswell. :)

Every other night, another interesting thing, there a deser species correct?

The only noises i hear is the crickets! :p

Im gonna do research on these guys and see if i am able to take care of them.. they sound interesting

JJ in your experience, are they tough to keep?

These particular ones come from a very dry sandy location yes, but the species ranges very broadly accross the country, from forest to dry , coast to inland and a range of elevations.
This locales enclosure is designed to reflect there natural habitat. I used to use plants but they never really bothered with them, though they will burrow into dry spinefex grasses.
Misting every other night, and occasional mornings, offeres them sufficient opportunity to drink droplets (droplets sprayed on walls etc simulates dew that forms on grasses and plants, their main water source, other than puddles/leaves when it rains.
I mist at night when they are active, so that mist dosent dry up before they emerge at dusk to feed.
Gutloading insects with fresh moisture and nutrition holding fruits and greens ensures sufficient hydration.
The icecream containers provide wet sand when laying, moist sphagum moss otherwise, in which they can hide when they require more moisture, E.G shedding. The lid keeps moisture retained and creates a higher humidity microclimate such as they might find below leaf litter. The Lizard you saw all white earlier has now shed and partly eaten her skin.

No they are easy to keep provided you take care of nutritional and enviromental basics.
One of the females is due to lay eggs presently.

Here I gutload sufficient Numbers of Crickets for tonights feed off. Todays gutload is buk choy, raw carrot, rock melon, strawberrys. On the dish is spirulina poweder, calcium and Vitamins. The crickets are consuming the gutload and becoming coated in poweder.

Later tonight I will prepare a fresh batch for the morning feed off, and vary the veg and fruit.

P.S The cardboard cores provide a place to hide and make transferring the crickets easier. There are much higher numbers than appear here, the cores are full, and that will feeds frogs, two pair of geckos, turtles and Monitors.

Beardies, skinks and homer will get roaches tomorrow gutoaded the same way. Everyday, variety. Every few days a big mixed salad for all aswell. Skinks will be offered a mouse or two soon as they are becoming active early.
