Well i came back from Englishtown, New Jersey to see a drag race. While i was gone Louie was misted and drank alot, got fed before i left. When i came back,i saw a mushroom sticking out of the plant:eek: I chopped it off, how do i make it so it doesnt grow back?

Yeah I noticed one of my chams pots has a lot. I just noticed them for about 3 days know but they grow back by the hour:mad: I took them out this morning and there is already more.

Your best bet to get rid of mushrooms is to repot your plant with some sterile potting soil...You will also need to carefully wash the root system of all soil too. If you see the cap of one mushroom you can almost bet that a whole bunch more are on the way because it has already dropped spores or what ever you call it to grow more.

that would probably be the safest way...after that there are antifungals which I don't know how safe they are for Chams.

Vinegar usually gets rid of mushrooms for good, I'm not sure how safe it would be in a chameleon's cage though.

repotting a plant will involve getting the plant out of the pot either by cutting pot if it is plastic or softly banging the pot on some kind of relatively soft surface to loosen the plant. After that a lot of water to rinse the soil away...

I am not sure how the plants will respond to vinegar, but I would think it would be OK if you can keep it fairly local. However sooner or later you will need to repot your plants anyway.

Also since you are using sterile soil there will be no nutrients, you may need to add some additional nutirents to keep plant going...plant food.

Im just worried if the spores will do something my cham, or if he eats em that they will harm him.

I thought mushrooms only grow in moist, dark/dim, places?

I've never had mushrooms before.. Most of my pots have river rocks on the bottom. Except for the big cage which I haven't finished yet. I use paper towel to cover the soil on that one.

Your cages that have mushrooms, does it get direct sunlight or none at all (just the tube up top)?

I have no idea if these are bad for chams though.

That cage gets a lot of sun and light...Its wierd because I just bought that plant and did the normal prosedure took out the old soil and went ahead and added organic soil and on top of the organic soil I put peat moss. This morning when I was wiping the bottom of the cages with my 10% bleach spray and I saw all the muchrooms I sprayed the sh*t out of them. Nothing happened so I just pulled them all out, but there was more I just took out a while ago:mad:

He prob likes walkin on it cuz it feels like carpet or mini pillows to his feet.. LOL..

Bucky, is yours brown or white?

Brian, so you spray the bottoms of the cage with 10% bleach?

Is the cham in there when you do? Does it stink like chlorox or is yours scented?

Thanks for the offer on the cage, really appreciate it but I don't have a cham to put in there right now. My veiled has a big one already. I'll take a raincheck though :D

How much are you selling the cages for?
