Keep it up, keep working, and vet asap! Don't get discouraged, and listen to all this advice because people really do care. Use it to motivate you and light a fire under your butt. Time is of the essence with a sick cham. I really want to see your new guy happier and healthier!
Congrats! It is a good sign he's curious. Don't get discouraged about him being shy about your hands, and don't get discouraged if he goes into a teenager stage either. Teenager stages can include many things, but becoming a little more territorial is sometimes one of them. I'm hoping that my...
@celeste_knitter I can't argue with that! I would trust it for the purpose of seeing a drop in UVI and saving money in the long run. I'd think more seriously about buying one (and run my nerdy experiments lol) if I had multiple reptiles or multiple cham setups, but I just have one little guy. :)...
Would a simple solution to @ispeedonthe405 's concerns be to try to use a higher wattage basking bulb, but lower the basking branches? That way it is getting a little bit warmer, but you can worry less about burns? I'm also curious for myself as my 7 month old cham continues to grow and get...
I forgot to mention I'm skeptical of these meters because they're sensitive to "high" humidity... honestly, being the nerd I am, I'd set up a controlled experiment with different brands and different styles and even different cham enclosures. The whole nine yards. Unfortunately, I don't think...
Being a physics nerd helps me in this department, so I hope some of this helps you guys interpret the light lingo. I also can't resist being an ex-teacher.
UVI stands for UV index, and that's what the solarmeters show you on the screen. The meter shows you an index of UV light (the UV part of...
I have to put a plug in and HIGHLY recommend a Dragon Strand enclosure when you upgrade! Seriously, the quality is unlike anything else on the market! I promise you can't go wrong with a Dragon Strand because of the quality frame and the design incorporating the Dragon Ledges. It is a complete...
Haha, my little guy is very shy too! I was shocked that he initially went into the new cage within 5 minutes. Jaw on the floor shocked! But of course as soon as I came over to remove the old cage he scurried over to his old comfort zone and I had to start all over, haha.
From the pics in your...
I use distilled water for my Mistking as well to avoid clogging up the nozzle since the spray is so fine, the holes are so incredibly tiny and the smallest amount of trace minerals in water can eventually clog up the nozzle. Distilled water can seriously prolong the life of these! Other people...
Daaang, what do you mean by "deep clean" 1-3 times a week? My version of a deep clean happens every 2-3 months.
Also, you've seriously perked my interest. I was under the impression that mites were EXTREMELY rare for chameleons unless someone uses substrate. Was I mislead?!
Whether you're getting a veiled or a panther chameleon you will want the Mistking. If you're getting a panther chameleon you ESPECIALLY want a Mistking, haha, but honestly you want one either way.
I don't know if there's an answer to the "most common basking bulb," but I have read that a lot of people get plenty of heat from a regular 60w bulb, like one you'd put in a regular lamp or household light fixture. I tried one though and couldn't get it warm enough so I upped it to a 75w and it...
@RyanBRZ Like others touched on, you do need to offer a basking spot all day to your cham. So as long as it isn't getting so hot that the dimmer is basically turning the bulb off or super dim for a lot of the time, then maybe it'll be okay...but still your cham might not like it.
Yes, chams see...
