Mouth open at the basking place

My cham would sit with his mouth open under the basking lamp when the wattage was too high (too hot) As soon as I put a weaker light bulb in he stopped right away I use a 60W incandescent bulb as a basking light

    Rubbing head and crest

Hi I don't write very often (like only when I have a problem - sorry) but I read your posts regularly and enjoy them very much - so much great info out there, thanks! My Veiled Charlie has developed some odd behaviour and I was wonder if rubbing or scratching is a sign for concern. Cage...

    Free range chameleon

Humidity I have been thinking about humidity. I work from home, so will be giving him very regular and long mistings. We do not have air conditioning, so that is not a problem for the summer. Once winter comes however, the air is quite dry because of heating, will probably use a humidifier.

Charlie's new home This is what I have come up with so far. I still have to hide the wires and hope (one day) to get some kind of automated misting system, but so far I am happy with how this all turned out. Thanks for the inspiration and advice

Charlie's new home Here is Charlie's new living space. We have decided to go with a 'free range' as this is where he seemed most comfortable. I still have to hide the wires and hope (one day) to get some kind of automated misting system, but so far I am happy with how this all...

    Free range chameleon

I was definitely thinking of indoor. I am in montreal, and the number of days per year a chameleon would be happy outside are numbered... I was thinking about something like cainschams was mentioning. I want to set up a tray with a high lip, maybe 2' x 2' on a small table in the corner of a...

    Free range chameleon

Hi, I have a juvenile male chameleon, Charlie and need to build him a proper home. I was noticing that some people in this forum do not use enclosures at all. What kind of set up is necessary for a healthy chameleon to live without a cage? I assume you still need some kind of misting system...

    Won't eat

I am happy to say that Charlie just ate 4 meal worms and started shedding! (first time in our care) I think this was the reason for his cranky listless behaviour and odd colouring. All this panic however gave us the kick in the pants that we needed to get Charlie a proper home.

There is only a metal grate top between the UVB and the tank. I have taken Charlie out of the tank and put him in a plant by the window and he seems much happier (is a nice light green) but is laying on top of the bookshelf beside the plant by the heat lamp I set up there. I find this to be...

Photos of Charlie Here is the set up I have for Charlie. It is definitely a 36" UVB bulb and 75W sunglo in the heat lamp. I was already suspicious of the pond/fountain and producing harmful bacteria as we put some small fish in it. The pet store assured us this would be OK...

    Won't eat

Hi, I have had Charlie, my Veiled chameleon for about three weeks. He has grown a lot and has always had a very healthy appetite. We let crickets loose in his cage and feed worms (butter and meal) by hand with great success. Usually he will eat 3 or 4 meal worms, or 1 or 2 butter worms plus 4...
