Can you share why you think it's a male? I'm not discounting your opinion at all. Sometimes it's difficult for me to sex chameleons, especially young ones, so I would just like to learn more about what other people look for when they try to determine gender.
Just watched an interesting video by "The Dark Den" on a new "enclosure" he built for his panther chameleon. I have never seen anyone do anything like this before, but I really like the concept. You will see why I put "enclosure" on quotes once you watch the video:
When you received the chameleon one week later did it look the same as your at home photos? If so, did you question the shop about the difference in appearance?
Anyhow, if they promised you a male and you don't want to keep the female I would definitely go back and demand an exchange or refund.
Calcium alone doesn't do a thing for reptiles. They need vitamin D3 in order to absorb the calcium. D3 is synthesized in the skin through exposure to appropriate wavelengths of UVB, which is why proper UVB bulbs and fixtures are so important. A lot of commonly advertised bulbs and fixtures are...
I highly doubt even a vet would be able to help but that is your only (slim) hope, and you will need to do it very, very, very soon.
Regardless, the vet will at least be able to administer humane euthanasia.
So you do not know if the chameleon in the first few photos at the shop is the one you actually received? Or did you receive that chameleon and its color changed to brown over time?
I "only" own 3 panther chameleons and have yet bred any so my experience is fairly limited, but I would still say...
To be honest with you I am not sure because I live in Korea and I have a difficult time reading Korean websites but I believe they were all extruded. Also as a disclaimer, I have never tried putting acrylic doors into a frame of any kind. I have used acrylic sheets up to a half inch thick for...
Yes, they don't claim that the 6.5 (or even 6.2 for that matter) don't measure above 320 nm, just that the response is heavily weighted towards the D3 sythesis spectrum. In the graphs I posted you can see that there are dots along the bottom from 320 all the way up to 400nm. One could argue that...
Can you share why you think the 6.5's UVI index includes UVA and may therefore be inaccurate for measuring UVB levels for D3 synthesis? I own a 6.5 meter so this is of particular concern to me.
Solarmeter's own 6.5 product page states that, although it covers 280-400nm, the response is heavily...
Wow that's pretty amazing. What a great group of vets. One would think Patrick would have trouble hitting prey with his tongue since he no longer has accurate depth perception but he did a pretty good job grabbing a cricket in one part of the video.
I'm reeeaaaally curious how that door will turn out with all the misting and humidity necessary for a chameleon.
I've posted on this topic many times before (feels like I'm beating a dead horse) but every time I've used acrylic in high humidity environments, pieces that were not welded on at...
Fixed ;)
Agree with others on the color changes as he gets older. His current colors are practically meaningless. Also, there is little to no way to confirm locale with 100% certainty as there is a great deal of variation between F. pardalis in the same locale. That is one reason why people...
I missed the amazing PU foam "scaping" you did with the sides of Kismet's enclosure but I have to admit, this looks amazing! I'm planning to purchase a new 60x45x90 glass terrarium soon and will definitely use this as some inspiration for my next build.
I wouldn't use acrylic for a door. been there done that several times and they always warp tremendously unless welded to other panels on at least 3 sides. I heard clear PVC works well but it's quite expensive.
I'm sorry to break the news to you but I think you've actually got a male. I knew those colors were too good to be true! ;););)
:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Witnessing this amazing transformation is what I love most about your build threads. Your enclosure went from a murderous tree to an awesome junglescape within the span of a few days.
I can't wait to see the final result after you added plants and other finishing touches!
By the way, is there...
