Pure water has a pH of 7 - perfectly neutral. It becomes acidic very easily when in contact with decaying organic matter because it lacks buffers. As you said rain water is pretty much the same as distilled so I can’t imagine there being any issues with chameleons.
Can you share any links to...
They are so tiny I had a difficult time discerning between a hemipenal bulge and a skin fold or bump from the curling of their tails ... I don't suppose they exhibit any other differences?
Thanks so much for sharing this information!
26° temperature drop is quite impressive. I understand there are similar nighttime drops in Madagascar but it still makes me uncomfortable given how cold 54°F/12°C feels. What kind of temperature drop do you provide in the summer?
This is my...
This enclosure keeps getting better and better. I love the addition of the peace lilies; they definitely fit the "tropical" theme better than the Meyer's lemons. I reached the same conclusion about trying to keep moss alive on the sides/back - it may work if you mist regularly throughout the...
Do you have a screen or glass cage? If glass you can probably cut down to 2 mistings per day. Another thing I have done is to cover the soil around the plant with something - leaves, pieces of wood, etc. This only works if the plant is still potted. This is one of the reasons I leave many plants...
Thanks for all the encouragement and feedback! I pulled the trigger and purchased a pair of C. boettgeri last weekend but only took a female home as only one of my two spare Exo Terra enclosures was suitably setup for a chameleon.
Took this photo just after I arrived home with her.
Her...
You don't want to play it too safe with wood sealant imo. If it's not strongly waterproofed the wood will rot and warp. This happened to me and I had to toss my wood enclosure out. Polyurethane should be fine (multiple coats!) and people here also seem to strongly recommend FlexSeal.
Wow, you regularly experience 40 degree drops? That’s going from pleasant spring/summer weather to below zero in the same day...
I’m in South Korea. We experience nighttime drops of around 5-10 degrees celsius but obviously that is not the case indoors.
Thank you for the link! Although the document did not contain a large quantity of information about C. boettgeri, the specific information about its origin and habitat is very helpful.
This is what I'm leaning towards and will probably end up doing. I just want to gather as much information as...
Even if you do regular supplemental hand mistings the heat will still dry plants out very, very quickly. I have never had any success with plants near my basking spot so these days I just keep that area relatively bare of vegetation.
A local reptile shop has these for sale and I am considering purchasing either one male or a pair. If I purchase I plan to keep them in 18x12x12 or 18x18x18 Exo Terra glass terrariums with lots of plants in a bioactive setup.
From what *very* little information I have gathered online, they are...
As the subject line says I am curious what the typical vet costs for chameleon treatment are in other countries.
I took one of my panthers to a local vet in Seoul, Korea yesterday as the tip of his tail was recently cut off and the total cost was about ten dollars (12,000 Korean won) which...
LEDs do degrade over time but it typically takes A LOT longer to reach that point than with a UVB bulb. According to the site below LEDs should retain 70% of their original brightness even after 50,000-70,000 hours of use. That's over 10 years if they are on 12 hours a day.
Understanding the...
