You do realise the bulbs that have caused problems are Zoo med no other compact bulbs have affected reptile.

I have just picked up my new cham he is only tiny so currently growing out in a 18x18x18 he will move to its permanent home in about 3 months. Here is a few pics the breeder I got it from told me its a male.

But surely without a thermostat it could overheat that one area do you see what I mean?

The thermostat is to make sure that the heats bulb does not over heats its enclosure.
