So I bought a couple hornworms from my local pet store, and they were both cocoons. I don't have a tomato plant to breed, but can I feed the moths to my Cham? She's only about 4 months old and I have no idea how large the moths will be or if she can eat them
Most chams don't like going down to the bottom of the cage, so try hanging it in the branches or on the side your your cage so it's closer to your chams level
I think you are forgetting the stress factor of the chameleons. Yes, you can occasionally grab them if you need to, however, it's much better to find a method that causes less stress. That is just plain old good animal keeping.
I find nothing wrong in making sure my animals are comfortable and...
The temp is at 70 at 11:30 which is the temp of the room so no longer worried about temp. And good point link, we will have to clean it every free days or so and watch out for our cat trying to sleep on it. Thank you guys as always
My girlfriend and I usually have a dim light on at night as we both get up a lot at night. We have been covering leia's cage with a blanket (covers front and half of sides, back half of sides and whole back is open for ventilation). Are there any risks in this? The last thing I want to do is put...
Are you sure it's a male? I got my Cham from a pet store when they told me it was a make, but is actually a female.
I only ask because of laying bins and what not. Got extremely nervous when I learned about eggbound.
Otherwise everyone above me has good advice
I know the rule of thumb being space between the eyes. I'm worried she won't eat them because she was rather traumatized by the super worm grabbing at her face and I'm not sure how small hornworms and silks are compared to supers. But thank you :)
Good looking girl you have. I personally was told I bought a make from the pet store but actually have a female. So lucky I checked these forums out!
Definitely look into laying bins. Going to get mine set up this month as she'll be 5 months in November. But becoming egg bound is a big deal and...
I have a 4 month old veiled whom I feed mostly crickets and trade off between wax worms and meal worms.
I tried to give her superworms, and she actually almost hand fed!!! But got a bit nervous. I put it on her favorite vine and she snatched it. However, she grabbed it from behind and it...
I would try to add something else in (such as super worms or calci worms) as wax worms are high in fat. But the fruit is a great addition. Still trying to get my Cham to even look at fruit. Kale is my next move
I heard stuff like this after I've had mine in there, however, my girl seems to enjoy climbing down to snack on worms (won't touch superworns after one scared her) and climbing back up. Should I still mount it higher?
Chams generally don't like being handled. Some do mellow out with age, however not all will. One thing to try and help is to add more folliage to the cage. It will help keep your Cham feeling safe, and this is a way to help them actually enjoy being handled.
It also helps to build trust by hand...
Another question now that I know I have a girl, at what age should I put a laying bin in her cage? Also, how high/low should it be. I'll be looking up dementions and what not for it in some other threads unless anyone knows them off hand
I have lowered temps down do about 85 basking and once she hits a year (only about 4 months now) I'll reduce her feeding. For now I want her to grow nicely on lots of tastes food. Thank you so much for the help and I'll be for sure to remember to cut back on good as she grows!
