Well, you have all made this decision very easy. I'll probably be ordering one tomorrow. My little guy probably won't be in it for at least a month, probably two. I'd like to get some plants going and get everything set up way ahead of time though.
This could also be part of the issue. I would definitely try to start cup feeding soon, as once he's had a week or so to settle in you can ever start trying to tong feed.
A lot of reptiles darken when trying to absorb heat. This is especially common in arid species like Bearded Dragons. While I've never observed on of my Chameleons doing such, I would not be at all surprised if this was the reason.
The little suckers have ridiculous grip strength too. I don't have any issue handling crickets, dubias, or supers, but man I hate dealing with my hornworms. That said, the moths are super cool to interact with.
Shedding is generally always a good sign. Has he started eating yet? It's not uncommon for a Chameleon to go several days, if not a week without eating when being introduced into a new environment. These animals get stressed very easily, and it's not uncommon for them to forgo food while...
I would honestly be more concerned about that than anything. It is incredibly important for your Chameleon to have proper day/night cycles. Is there any way you can purchase a timer before you leave? They're about $10 - $15 at PetSmart I think.
I agree! I owned a few Reptibreeze enclosures for my previous Chameleon, and I always thought they felt incredibly flimsy and brittle. They did their job, but I would like to have something nicer this go around.
@OldChamKeeper thanks for the input! What exactly are the dragon ledges? That's good to hear though. I'm glad to hear about the quality though, as I feel that the Reptibreeze enclosures are pretty low quality.
Congrats on your new little buddy! As far as handling goes take this VERY slow. Veiled Chameleons especially can be very skittish, and generally, don't like to be handled. Trust is the name of the game. I promise it's going to be a lot easier to work with him now then if you rush things and...
Gotcha! Sorry if you said that, I probably just overlooked it!
I agree with everyone here that you should optimally get a Mist King as soon as you can (they really make things SO much easier). However, since that's clearly not an option at this time I would just take some of the other advice...
Hey, everyone! I currently have a juvenile F. pardalis who is in a 16" x 16" x 30". I know he is going to quickly outgrow this enclosure, so I'm looking into getting a larger on order ASAP so that I can start preparing it for him early on. I was curious if anyone here has any experience with...
Hi, everyone! I'm brand new to these forums, but I am not new to Chameleon care. I currently have a gorgeous juvenile blue bar F. pardalis, and I had a C. calyptratus that past away last year (at the age of 6!). I've always loved these animals, and I'm excited to be a part of these forums now...
I used to occasionally go to Petco to pick up Super Worms. Every time I would go there I almost came home with an animal. They constantly have three or four baby Veiled in an enclosure together. Temperature always seemed to be low 50s, humidity was normally sitting around 30%, no sign of UVB, no...
