I never had much luck with free range lights. I just made a nice 2ftx4ft area with a basking light and a 4ft T5HO. This is his house, and he comes if he wants to bask, and comes back at the end of the day to sleep.
If i was going to make a free range lighting setup, id get a single 4ft (or...
What gets me through is "tegu checks". Once a week you should annoy your tegu to get them to huff. If they sound like darth vader they are healthy. If they sound like a coffee maker they have a URI and you need to warm them up.
Unfortunately my family really likes doing the tegu checks, who...
UVI to µW/cm² is on average 1:40. So if you are reading 40, you are reading about 1 UVI.
Keep in mind its impossible to do a direct conversion, but 40 to 1 is good enough for city work.
Yea im just going my observations to get ANY reading. Im sure here in ohio its around that right now too. I just didnt want them to go "the interwebs say i should be reading a 4 and my meter is only reading a 2, so it must be bad".
Generally the best way is peak summer at noon.
Take the "bad" meter outside on a sunny day at noon, it should read 6-7. On a cloudy day it should read 3- 4, again at noon. I mean technically thats a dumbed down way of explaining how solarmeter calibrates their own meters.
Also your other meter you want to buy, is not for reptiles(even if...
increased thirst could be a from the weather change too. its so dry here now, that all my doors are starting to shut again instead of being swelled up from the humidity.
The rolly polly army in tegu land is making short work of the leaf litter and strawberry tops. They even brought the babies out for dinner, they are on the left of the berry. And plenty of that terrifying white mold :P
full sun around 45-50. Cham just needs to get to 65-70 and with sun its gonna bump around 20 degrees above ambient. Ive done several thankgiven runs like that.
Infact too hot might be around 75 with full sun around here, im lucky they last 30min in the outdoor cage before they start clawing...
I dont think they are going to drift much. I have mine from 2011ish, and it still reads real sunlight at noon the same as it does when new.
However you "never know".
But solar meter "cals them" the same way. They expose it to a known source and makes sure it reads i believe within 20%.
So...
They are in cal for the first year. Then its $100 to get it recertified.
As you said, the best thing is to find noon day sun, and use it as a reference.

How do i put this...
"these are not designed for industrial use"
You do not buy these things to tune your UVB epoxy Curing bulbs.
You do not buy these things to tune your tanning bed.
You do not buy these things to test for deep UVB UVC for your sterilizer light.
Even a "solar meter 6.5"...
