As long as the front and top are open, you should be fine. People use plastic wrap, you can also use a thin foam or posterboard

Thanks for the encouragement @Gingero, I got a heat pad for my roach bin but haven't set it up yet. Perhaps that's why they are growing veeeerrrryy slowly.
