I wonder if aquarium safe tubing is quietly food grade? It wouldn't surprise me since fish are so sensitive. I'll bet reef keepers could talk about this in great detail.
There's always enough beer at my house for a party... Come on over! :D
I've had this concern myself. It's really difficult (impossible?) to find large diameter food grade tubing in short lengths.
Homebrewer here! With homebrew, you'll get plastic flavors in the beer if you use the wrong tubing, so there is definitely leaching going on, probably of the...
Ugh, yes. Off and on, we have issues with either gnats (yellow sticky paper works best) or fruit flies (BeapCo brand traps work great for these). It's hard to keep the soil moist enough for the snails to lay eggs but dry enough to discourage gnats. The hubby is the keeper of the snail farm...
To me, there's a big difference between "substrate" and a planted bioactive system.
When "substrate" is used, it usually means something loose laid down on the bottom intended to be temporary and replaceable, either for looks or for absorbing waste/moisture. Think cocobark or sand in pet store...
Going slow but going well! How's things with your snails?
We did a huge purge this summer and are letting the colony build back up now. We had hundreds of snails at one point and it just became too much. I think I'm on generation 3 or 4. Whatever type of snails these are, it's about six...
Thank you, all! Bucks is very special to me, and it's been wonderful to watch him grow up. Today Bucks is 325g at 1yr 5mo - that's a post-poop weight. Enjoying some sunshine on the deck again today. I can't believe how nice this weather is. :D
Bucky doesn't use nearly as much of the...
I can't believe how nice the weather is in November! Bucky is getting some surprise outside time (supervised) in the ficus. Dubias for breakfast and a warm shower, too - he's way too spoiled :D
First, he's a stunner! I love love love his coloration.
For comparison, Bucky hatched May 30, 2015, and was 220g at 13 months (end of June 2016). I have been tracking his growth, and it's been a steady increase just starting to slow now that the days are short.
The basics! There us a lot of conflicting information on the internet about chameleon care, but this information can be trusted. It was our together by people with decades of successful chameleon keeping and breeding. Good luck!

Once again, my favorite holiday is here! Post your costumes!
Here's me and the hubby as "Stranger Things" characters for our party last night. (Ignore the messy bedroom, haha.)

Some chameleons do get "cage aggressive" but are often much calmer once out of the cage. He's nervous and feels cornered; the trick is to coax him in a direction (out!) that will let you clean. Can you herd him onto a stick with your other hand and then take the stick to a free range plant...
