My boy has had beautiful colors since I got him - an array of pastels turning into gorgeous jewel tones over the course of a few months. Good breeding without inbreeding; proper husbandry with high quality UVB; excellent nutrition with a wide variety of properly gutloaded insects; and a good...
Good breeding practices matter! Even though Zeus is going through his difficult teen angst phase, they are both wonderful & healthy individuals. Thanks for doing what you do & being a great mentor!
I think with the export situation the way it is, keeping in touch with one another is very...
Here are the latest pics of Bowie & Zeus. Sorry I've been away so much...I'm in the middle of school getting my doctorate in nursing & this year is a killer!
Latest pic of D. Bowie...this one is about a month old & he's shed about 2 times since then. I've got to get a newer pic since he has some new colors to show off. Still a sweetie rock star!
Another thing to think about & I haven't seen it discussed (forgive me if I have overlooked it) is about the keeping of live feeders. How will your housemates feel about you keeping a large volume of a variety of "pests" around to feed to the chameleon? There is no way around this really. Just...
It totally depends on what kind you want. There are quite a few really good breeders here on this site! For panthers I recommend @Matt Vanilla Gorilla. For other species, check out the forum under those species and you will get a feel for who keeps them & you can ask about reputable breeders...
We've had our dragon for awhile now - the problem with the dragon bulbs is that you must have a 2ft tall cage in order to get the right distance for that bulb, otherwise they are too strong. I only use T5 bulbs, that way I can reuse the fixtures on other animals as I switch cages, etc. He will...
I have 2 chams, 1 bearded dragon, 1 tort, 1 leopard gecko, and 2 crested geckos. Our water has fluoride in it, so I have to use DW or RO for soaking, misting, food prep, etc. It got to be a real hassle carrying in multiple gallons or 5 gallon jugs. I got a 4 stage 150 gallon RO system for less...
You will appreciate the solarmeter when it comes time to change out bulbs - trying to eek every last penny from those bulbs before they are really out of commission!
I'm sure you do - with a phone at your side! Seriously though - I know I appreciate the support you give me with my questions and pics of "does this look ok to you?" all the time...I can't imagine how many other people are doing the same thing!
The location of the misters depends on what plants you have to some degree. On 1 cage I have a double mister head in the front right corner & that's it. My plants do not get enough water. I need either another head in the front left or the back to get the back corner plants.
On my other cage I...
Sorry it's taken me so long! My doctoral program started back & I've been a little overwhelmed with reading. Here are some pics for you. I'm not an expert in cage setup, but this has been working for me, especially the double pot using the ikea containers that are currently available.
I don't know the exact measurement & the chams are asleep so I can't get pics but they will fit. The ledges are quite long. A better use is to anchor branches & hang the pots from the branches, using other branches to anchor. I will take pics tomorrow
There are some great combo lights for uvb & 6500k plant bulbs. Depending on you cage size & plant mix you might need more plant lighting than you think. There are led plant options too. In my long running thread there are a lot of plant lighting discussions, especially on LED
I understand they are wider, but with no room to put 2, I had to compromise on getting 2 large clearsides. One day I will have room & be able to upgrade them to 2 atriums - that is the ultimate goal. For now they will be quite happy in their decked out lg clearsides. All of Bill's cages are...
