The females are more complicated, more risky, and require a higher level of care. Just like human children.
I stick to boys, for both.
A veiled will not be giving you cuddly feelings and will thrive the most when left alone. Every handling stresses them out and shortens their life span...
Your chameleon has not been getting any UVB, so it cannot utilize the calcium you are giving it. This could quite possibly be the beginning of MBD. It can affect their ability to use their tongue.
You are so very lucky his allowing you to hand feed and water him. You MUST get him a source of...
I had this exact situation, but a tad younger. My male didn't begin to thrive until they were separated.
Just don't tell him what you plan to do, if it keeps the heat off you.
I keep a dowel rod handy, because it is so hard to reach that high and around all the branches. I can usually use it to run him close enough to me to make the process easier. Of course, this is only for my veiled. Everyone else is nicer.
I would think that if that were the case, the uvb bulb would have to be quite large. With a space that big, and the cham seeking light for heat, he may never wander into the area that uvb is penetrating. The windows also offer light, but no uvb. If you don't have it nearby where you know he's...
and my IMMEDIATE concern, is your little guy is reaching out and touching that lamp (it looks like it). He can get severe burns that way, and chams heal very slowly. You want to limit their access to the lamp, and keep it several inches from them, so they don't burn their casque.
In an area this large, would the basking and uvb need to be near each other? I know my guys spend most of their time basking, and if the UVB was several feet away, they probably wouldn't get much.
Thoughts?
So, related question, with the females, I see you recommending that the lay bin be a permanent part of the enclosure. Are you adding drainage holes so it doesn't hold water? Do you have to keep a close eye on the moisture levels in the soil?
Could be a tongue injury. Check the bottom of the plant stand for any burrs, same thing with plastic items. Could be end of floral wire, or a sharp edge on a zip tie. We had a ceramic decoration in our bearded tank, made for reptiles... I cut my hand open on a hidden sharp edge on the underside.
Ok. I LOVE the name!!!
and I LOVE LOVE LOVE your son's sound effects! I cracked up!
I love everything about the video. D. Bowie has a brother named Chester! Can't wait to see how they compare. He is the chillest little dude.
