Once he’s about a year old, just leave him in one enclosure. It’s best not to feed him every day at that point. I understand your dilemma with work/school and the chameleon being young though. Keep doing your best, sounds like he’s doing ok with the travel.
My chameleon consisted on a diet of 100% BSF’s for about 3 weeks. He did great, last time I place 200+ BSFL in his enclosure at once though. I couldn’t open the cage during this time as there were WAY too many flying around.
Just buy a computer fan with a USB plug. They cost like $5, are quite, and very efficient. As far as outside in the heat, I place the outdoor enclosure in the shade and heavily shower the entire enclosure often. The other option, I place a few dozen ice cubes on top of the cage, and they drip...
I recommend a fecal. Even the greatest breeders in the world can’t totally prevent parasites. It’s not the end of the world, a healthy chameleon can co-exist with them, the problem is when they become ill or injured, even a small amount of parasites can bloom into lethal numbers. The poop...
More springtails, they feed on mold/mildew/fungus. You may have a ventilation issue as well. Make sure you have good airflow, this will help dry out the enclosure faster, knocking down your mold problem. I guess a third issue could also be your drainage. Make sure there isn’t standing water...
No need for any fans is you have well designed heating elements. They create a natural chimney effect that draws fresh air in through the vents near the bottom and through the magic of thermodynamics, pulls it up and out the open screen top.
Order your feeders online. They are delivered promptly to your house, and are more healthy and cheaper than in any store. Just look into our site sponsors for good places to purchase insects.
There’s no point in buying smaller cages to “grow in”. Just buy or build what you plan on keeping him in the rest of his life. The XL reptibreeze (2x2x4 ft) is a minimum requirement. If you are handy, build one bigger, I’ve also heard of keepers building two and linking them together.
He’s gonna hate you soon enough.
Seriously, some tolerate handling better than others. Most veileds tend to become little balls of hate. But, maybe you got lucky.
Agreed. It’s unfortunate because a lot of us can help. These type of posts piss me off because it forces me to ignore a lot of new veiled owners threads. I have this feeling that every post similar to this will degrade the same way. It’s childish, and down right offensive. The language...
Pulled the spline and the screening out. This leaves a nice shelf to silicone the glass to. It makes it so the silicone is holding it in when the top goes on the tank. I was worried about the silicone being able to hold the weight of the glass, but it’s been about two weeks so I think I’m in...
I just drilled my tops about a week ago. Never did it before either. I actually broke the cheap 1/8 inch glass from Lowe’s, but the 1/4 inch was a breeze.
