Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Female amibilobe panther, about 7 months old, I bought her about a month ago at a reptile show
Handling - Once or twice a week I take her out for a shower or visit to the outdoor cage with as little handling as possible.
Feeding - 1 or 2 appropriate sized dubias...
From everything I've read fresh greens and veggies are the best choice. https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/feeder-nutrition-gutloading.75/ is the go-to for feeder nutrition.
I also admit that feeding fresh food to bugs is sometimes a pain in the butt. If you'd rather use pre-made stuff then...
Oh wow, Donnie has some COLOR on him! And quite the free range as well, the lucky boy!
Do you have a thread on your range? I'm curious how you handle humidity, lighting, and all that fun business.
I agree, looks like a fresh superworm beetle. From what I understand they're not anything special as far as nutrition goes and most chams don't really like to eat them.
I say pupate a few more super worms, throw them into some tupperware, then you'll never have to buy superworms again!
I agree with most of what jacksjill said, but a couple additions...
You can use a can multiple times if you wipe off the excess then cover the straw hole in plastic. You may need to cut off the tip of the straw where it's hardened to start the flow again, but who cares?
You'll want to silicone...
Mist schedules vary by location and humidity needs. Keep an eye on your humidity, and any fungus or mold buildup, and adjust as necessary.
That lip licking was probably him drinking. Mine aren't often terribly overt about drinking unless they're thirsty.
I've heard of people warming their...
What about good old fashioned fly paper? Super cheap, easy to hang a roll from the ceiling (or ceiling fan), and effective if a bit unsightly.
Side note, it's funny to hear pitcher plants being called tropical and seeing people charge $150 for them. Those, and venus fly traps, are all over...
That looks like some kind of skink, right? We have some pretty cool wildlife around here too, like box turtles and snapping turtles. I'd be more worried about a snapping turtle hitting me than my hitting it!
I'm not sure what type he could be, but he does have some nice blues on him. I'd like to see his setup if you don't mind sharing pics of those! It's always fun to see how other people make their cages. Plus, people here on the forum are good about passing along housing tips.
I'm mostly posting here so I can subscribe to the thread ;) It's a beautiful find, I'm excited to see what you're going to do with this!
I like the idea of putting in a shower pan false bottom high enough to put a bucket under, that's certainly what I'd try to do for drainage in your shoes...
I'm no expert, but from what I've seen Andee is one of the most knowledgeable people on this site when it comes to cham health. I'd politely suggest listening to whatever advice you get from that corner (y)
I've a healthy male panther chameleon, and everyone knows they're friendly as puppy dogs...
I noticed last night and this morning that my boy Toby had a couple spots that looked like they wanted to shed, so I decided to check on him over lunch today. He really kicked that shed into high gear!
Here's some pics pre and post shower.
It sounds like it's a good thing you picked him up :) He's a beaut, for sure!
If I might make one more suggestion, it would be to raise the heat lamp off the screen an inch or three so your boy doesn't burn himself if he decides to turn acrobatics on the top of his cage.
