No, her chameleons poor health is to blame. If it’s from a pet store, most likely due to improper UVB and/or improper supplementation. Advise her to return it, and look for a real breeder, not a store of any kind.
That’s very cool to see. I’ve been in the room for literally thousands of CT scans, how in the hell did he hold still for so long? I’m not sold on the stricture diagnosis, only reason being I’ve never seen a normal CT of a chameleon. There is definitely a narrowing, but based on the anatomy...
If you use a live plant or have a bioactive substrate, just let the larvae loose. They will turn into flies and buzz around in a few weeks. Chameleons LOVE the natural stimulation of BSF’s. And they are very slow moving, so if they fly out, a fly swatter will make short work of them.
Silicone works, but it must be certain blends. Look for aquarium silicone, or use GE brand silicone 1. The others contain anti-fungal/mold chemicals that are considered NOT fish safe. If you can’t use it under water, I wouldn’t use it above either. I haven’t heard about flexseal, and as far...
Your variety of plants sounds great! Plant them all! Here’s the hard part, you’re gonna loose some. Give the enclosure at least a month to sort this out. You will see some thrive and some fail. By the time you add your chameleon, you will have strong, mature plants that will tolerate him...
I just release larvae, luckily my enclosure is too dense to allow them to breed(it’s done in flight). I have a panther, he handles the moths just fine.
I cup feed in the enclosure. Just a solo cup is fine. But I use bioactive, so mine hunts black soldier flies, hornworm moths, and superworm beetles daily.
Good start, more live plants, more horizontal branches. Eventually you will need to get a larger enclosure, sooner better than later. Should be an easy transition to a larger enclosure based on the way you’ve equipped the one you’ve got now. Nice to see you looking for suggestions before...
Havnt gotten that far yet. Purchased the major components, just drilled out the glass top yesterday. I’m ironing out the filtration (paludariun with fish), and figuring out where I want my bulkhead and inlet drilled. Basically found a good way to burn about a grand.
I’ve noticed my panther looses the brighter colors starting in about December, through April. Granted I’m not breeding him, but the last three years have shown the same pattern. My lighting adjusts to winter hours, but he also stays inside during this time due to outside temps. Seasonal or...
I’ve used moss on the bottom of the cage, on top of the substrate, moss covered vines, and lots of tillandsia. Only negative is that they all dried out. I think the combination of dry periods, and all the plants blocking the mist from hitting every spot helped to their demise. I don’t buy the...
Unless you are keeping montane species, or plan on using dry moss, chameleons require more periods of lower humidity then high. All my moss and some air plants struggle with the warmer dry periods in between mistings.
You seem to really know your water chemistry. I don’t doubt the validity of your opinion. As far as standing water, or waterfalls go...do not do it! Chameleons don’t look for standing water in the wild. They will drink from leaves when water from a waterfall or creek or whatever splashed...
My best guess is the combination of poor gut load, over supplementation of CA and D3, and bacterial introduction via the waterfall has resulted in either a CA or D3 toxicity, or bacterial infection. The vet should be running bloodwork (if they haven’t already), and ditch the waterfall, they are...
