His first shed was a little slow, he actually shed about 4 days after he came home, so I attributed it taking a bit longer because he was recently shipped and still getting acclimated (and I was struggling to keep his humidity where it should be) he got it done, though and has had quick sheds...
Perfect! Then he's golden! He just shed a huge chunk off and ate it. He's already over half way done. I noticed he was looking quite pale yesterday so I assumed he was about to shed. Thank you for your help! :)(y)
So, I've done a ton of research and ironed out kinks (maintaining proper humidity and misting schedules, fogger etc.) in my husbandry with my boy, Godrick. I just keep seeing conflicting information on humidity levels for shedding chameleons, and I know a lot of people here have Panthers...
Well, I have his enclosure in the corner of the room with a shower curtain hung on the wall behind it. With his fogger, I can keep his enclosure at about 50% overnight. Before I had the fogger, I struggled to keep it at 40% overnight which was way too low.
I know you'll get it nailed down. I've had to adjust my mistings and fogger accordingly as well. I live in California where humidity isn't the norm and it was a struggle at first. I think I've figured it out now though! You will too! :)(y)
Agreed! My little guy's name is Godrick Merlin Scamander lol I think it's a fun name....I came very close to naming him Yoshi, but I saw a few others had named their chameleons Yoshi...and I was hoping to name him something that hadn't been used yet. Angus is a great name, but so is Otto! @CC's...
I'm saying by all the reading and research I've done before I got my boy, the coiled bulbs are a small focused area of uvb vs. the linear which will cover more area so your chameleon will get the uvb they require. I do believe that's what others are also trying to tell you. I'm just curious why...
The linear bulbs cover a larger area so he doesn't have to sit in one small spot to get uvb. He can roam in his enclosure toward the top (where they usually like to hang out unless it's too warm.) And still be absorbing the uvb rays he needs. The compact bulbs are not an efficient source.
My guy stayed dark for most of his first month with us as well. Also, I had to get my calcium without D3 on Amazon. None of our local pet stores had the calcium or reptivite without D3.
