To work, or not to work, that is the question...

Often it is many small steps that change the big picture. Influencing one manager in one store is a good thing. Do your best to do your part with the hand you get dealt...no regrets. When trying to fight disease in developing countries many poeple performing very small projects (like...

Serious Humidity Issues - help please!

We agree - just took too many words to come to the simple point: get a good hygrometer and adjust the moisture as needed. To clarify - I did not say humidity stays in one place. It is the opposite - moisture vapor moves from warm to cold this is why more moisture is needed to maintain...

Serious Humidity Issues - help please!

No that is not what I'm saying at all. OK - breaking my promise...really gonna be my last post on this thread (maybe). I think the point of confusion is that relative humidity is RELATIVE to temperature and is expressed as a % saturation - (the ammount of moisture in the air relative to...

    Poster Board?

Thanks Drew - that looks like a great option. The type of poster board I was thinking of is more like corrogated cardboard with a plastic coating on one side: http://www.staples.com/Pacon-4-Ply-Colored-Poster-Board/product_726421?cmArea=SC1:CG101:DP2087:CL140932 They had individual...

    Poster Board?

I plan on installing something on the back of my enclosure to prevent mist from hitting the wall and enclosing 3 sides during the winter to help moderate temp. and RH. I was shopping for poster board for my kid's science fair and realized the non-porous type that is used for dry erase markers...

Serious Humidity Issues - help please!

Relating to the problem - At 20 degrees outdoors and 55% outdoor RH (about what its been in NJ this past week) that is 8.3 grains per pound of moisture in the air (gr/lb). Heat 8.3 gr/lb to 80 degrees at RH drops to about 6%. Every home has moisture added during the winter from showering...

    Lol

Nice! Just got a 3 month old too. My first one and I appreciate all the questions you've been asking (many are the same that I had).

Serious Humidity Issues - help please!

I agree with you regarding a disadvantage of plastic being its obstruction of circulation (however a wet towel also substantially inhibits air flow). Actually seeing mold on plastic is an advantage (you know it is there and can do something about it - just wipe it off if you catch it early)...

Serious Humidity Issues - help please!

The information in Warpdrive's post is inaccurate, misleading and potentially harmful. One of the requirements for mold growth is a nutrient source (most often carbon based) and another requirement is the duration and level that moisture is available. Towels are much more susceptible to...

Parasites and Bleach in Waste Drain Water

If it is simply waste water you are trying to treat prior to disposal then why not just boil it? If the purpose is to look through the scope to watch these bugs drink the kool-aid and ask for more; great fun!

Serious Humidity Issues - help please!

For some reason I cannot view the pic. of your enclosure. Plants will help humidity buy adding moisture (retained and released slowly from the soil and released directly from the plant). A humidifier would also help but it would need to be cleaned routinely to prevent microbial growth and...

Serious Humidity Issues - help please!

There could be a number of reasons you relative humidity is only 10%. Based on the amount of moisture you're introducing the problem is likely either: 1) You are measuring RH in the basking area. Keep in mind that relative humidity is RELATIVE to temperature and it based on the % the air is...

    Chameleon Only Website

Just got my first cham from chameleons only last Thursday. Liddy was extremely helpful and took a lot of time answering my stupid questions. They also followed the weather in my location daily to find a window when shipping would be appropriate. I bought a custom sized cage from them (added an...

    Baby Veiled Problem with Eyes

Can rinsing the eyes with DI water be a problem? I will pick up some saline solution - just curious; I thought DI would be not quite but almost as pure as distilled or RO treated. Simply planned on using DI because it is what I have.

    Baby Veiled Problem with Eyes

I'm having the exact same problem with the eyes and can't figure it out. I'm going to give it a few days and if it does not resolve am going to try rinsing the eye with DI water. Please keep us posted if you find a solution or if it gets better on its own.

    New Arrival! Advice appreciated

Lava rocks are a great idea - and look good too. I found the plant holder in a local nursery and had to get it. I hope to set the pothos in the middle and have the plant climb up and hang down. Not sure where to buy them but found this site from the manufacture's tag (it was cheaper than...

    New Arrival! Advice appreciated

Thanks - I'll get that dirt covered (already saw him get a mouth full on a cricket miss). The breeder recommended 90 degrees for a baby and the D3 and vitamins 2x per week. I have confidence in her recommendations but have reduced levels to split the difference between her suggestion and...

    New Arrival! Advice appreciated

The cham I've been preparing for finally arrived! Named Allastor "Mad Eye" Moody (when you have a 9 year old all pets get named after Harry Potter characters). Thanks to all the experienced cham keepers who post on this - you've been a great help. He's between 2.5 and 3 months and I...

What else do we do with our time

Work too much - environmental consulting firm evaluating chemical and microbial exposures (industrial hygiene). Family takes up the rest of my time; 9 year old daughter and 10 month old son and a great wife. Love to read and waiting for George RR Martin to get off his ass and release his next...

    New setup advice

Was thinking about that but did not seam practical given that I'd use it for a few months then have to sell it or let it collect dust.
