I have a lot of pathways in my cage as well, arranged in a pretty random fashion and less of the “donkey kong” style. It’s pretty cool how my cham seems to venture in all the various nooks and crannies.
I think yours looks fine as-is, and if you were to make a change, perhaps remove some of...
Sounds like a great idea. I’ll fix a short cup against a branch from them to climb out and see what happens.
I usually keep the cage stocked with several fat crickets, and has ignored the super worms that I had in a cup.
Probably has enough to eat such that she can be picky. It’s always a...
Do they have a tendency to fall off branches, or do they stay put and wander?
If it’s the latter, it would seem that free-ranging them inside the cage could work.
I want my girl to hunt/work for her food.
Foliage, especially a pothos seems needed. Don’t just need to have places to drink from, but also, leaves to trap/contain water. They’ll either drink it or it’ll help with humidity, and improve comfort/reduce stress (foliage is great for everything imo).
My cage has a ton of various branches and plants (real and fake) for Leilu. I’ve found that she seems to love all the nooks that are in her cage.
While she favors certain spots/pathways, I wanted to build something where she wouldn’t become depressed/bored, and wanted to give her every...
I have a 2x2x4 cage and am regularly feeding my female panther loaded/dusted crickets. I tend to add a few crickets each day/every other day and let them roam around for her to hunt (the cup approach seems nice but I’d rather have her be “wild”) - and she’s one very happy and healthy girl.
I...
Her tail looks pretty thin at its base and I noticed your cage is nearly devoid of foliage. Possibly very dehydrated. I think unusual hanging habits are evidence of health/habitat issues.
Sometimes the area by the foot could look weird if it’s bending/climbing at a weird angle - and their feet are always bigger than expected no matter how comfortable you are with your cham’s appearance.
If there’s any further worry, changing UVB bulb out with a new one never hurts, especially if...
petco believe it or not... i has been eyeing her for almost 2 months, and the veiled i bought from a “reputable” guy was sick and didn’t make it.
she’s super healthy and am glad to have my sassy girl. :)
much better living in her new hone vs where she was prior. a rescue cham!
Mine always tends to set up shop 90-120 minutes before bedtime. She’s active all throughout the day, and I like seeing her chillax and settle in for the night. Beautiful when she sleeps, turns a certain orange/pink with shades of blue.
Definitely agreed - just saying that one shouldn’t summarily write pet stores off either, especially given how the cham looks (awareness, bones, etc..). Every animal, including humans, can live and do well in (temporarily) sub-optimal conditions. Anyone who’s ever adopted a cat/dog know this...
I don’t really like handling mine unless she’s climbing on her cage - very rarely happens, but I think they all do that from time to time.
Priority should be that it’s active, eating and drinking. As they say, chams are really showpiece pets, as opposed to others that tolerate/prefer handling...
I’m a new owner myself as of roughly 2 months and am on my 3rd cham.
The first was adopted from my son’s friend’s mother. He was a baby, and had terrible MBD deformities to the point where he couldn’t even walk let alone climb. I brought him to the vet to put him to sleep not even after...
Poor little guy, he didn’t make it. Bought him at a show. One of his eyes tended to be closed most of the time, I asked the owner/seller if he was sick and he convinced me that he wouldn’t sell a sick one.
Well, I brought him home and he was ok for a bit, though, always tended to stay by...
