I’d skip the kit. Honestly I wish they’d stop selling them. You want linear uvb lighting and are better off going bigger on the cage, as people have mentioned. I use both the mister and a dripper with no problems.
Yup. I gut load mine with the same variety of fruits and vegetables as roaches or crickets. They will happily eat each other if hungry. I don’t use as a staple, because they’re a bit fatty and chams usually love them and have been known to go on hunger strikes, refusing other feeders, when they...
You are correct. Zophobas morio turn into darkling beetles and are called both super worms and Morio worms. There are giant meal worms that look similar if you aren’t used to them, those are meal worms sprayed with some hormone.
I’m regards to my own caution, it is the element of the unknown. I simply would rather not take the risk; I have neighbors near by, I don’t know what they do or do not treat with. There are a wide variety of substances out there, I’m sure there are things that would not be good for a cham that...
You should be very cautious of pesticides etc as well as parasites if you are going to feed insects you catch. For that reason, I purchase all my feeders; I’m not confident enough that the area around me is 100% safe for bug collecting. I’m also not sure how spider venom would effect a cham, and...
That’s their poop! I have extra powdered chow and rotate them in and out of the fridge. I also saved a couple pods so I can just make the chow, pour it in there, and transfer the worms. They do grow fast, especially if your house is warm (like mine).
I am away a lot, and could find nothing that rivaled the quality and reliability of a mist king. I know some people are able to build their own mister and create something they say is comparable, but that is beyond my skill set.
One thing to consider with the mister vs just a dripper is that...
My female, Iggy, and my male, Pickles.
Pickles is a rescue who came to me with significant burns and MBD, so please excuse the remaining evidence of both! He is still a beautiful boy, a real fighter ❤️
Glad everything worked out okay, and that Charlie is well. Thank you for sharing, it is a good real life example of why many advocate to have the lay bin as a permenant part of the enclosure.
Falling and a lack of strength or often indicative of health issues brought on by husbandry issues. A vet that knows chams is a good idea (please ask about this, as chams have specialized needs). If you fill out the form I’m going to post below people will be able to give you some more targeted...
I keep my lay bin in with my female at all times. This eliminates any guess work about timing and I don’t have to mess with her enclosure and disturb her near lay time. After my females first clutch I cut down on her food intake significantly to reduce clutch size, and thus reduce the stress on...
I can’t speak from experience on the care of the break, I’ll leave that to those who have successfully healed them.
What I can offer is that you do need to correct your lighting, and supplementation, ASAP. That is a large part of why you have the issue you do. Coil bulbs and time by a window...
Looking good! The other great thing about pothos is you can find them all over, even in winter. I see them at my local Walmart and grocery stores year round. I’ve killed many plants, but even my pothos cuttings thrive.
