I remembered reading about a guy who was breeding differential grasshoppers and he was able to reduce the diapause time after every generation. Could be worth a try if you have a specie that needs a diapause
You should definitely try roaches. There are many different species out there that you can use. You can also catch grasshoppers for most of the year (I also live in Austin and see those hopping around everywhere). Just remember that if you catch anything there are risks of parasites and...
I have somewhere between 150-200 xsmall orange head roaches plus 15 adults for $40. Must pickup in Austin, TX. I have other roaches/isopods as well, if interested, but in smaller quantities. Message me if you have any questions.
Have you tried HEB? I picked up 3 cases of water from an HEB on Riverside, that was yesterday around 3pm. Last night I also went to the HEB in the Hancock Center and saw plenty of water. Maybe I've just had good luck with HEB. Hope you find water!
I have some roaches and cleaning crews for sale, if anybody in Austin or the surrounded areas is interested. I only have 1-2 groups since my colonies are small.
125 small + 15 adults Eublaberus posticus: $50
30 mixed Eublaberus sp. "Ivory": $30
10 small Elliptorhina javanica: $20
100 mixed...
I think you'll find a better deal for orange heads since they're more readily available than ivory heads. Another plus for orange heads is that you could keep them without substrate, although I prefer to use substrate with them. Personally, I think the ivory head is prettier than orange heads...
Discoid are kind of similar to dubia, not very active. The adults do grow larger though.
Orange heads and ivory heads are more active for me, and also meatier. With these guys you need to make sure you provide plenty of protein and some humidity. Otherwise they will either eat the wings off...
Well, as devyn said it's better to feed early in the day so the chameleon has time to bask and digest the food. It will depend on what time your lights will go off. Just remember the chameleon needs time to digest the food. You can buy a feeding cup or make one yourself and leave the crickets...
What do you mean by "feeding schedule"? Do you want to know what insects to feed each day? Or are you asking at what time you should be feeding your chameleon?
Honestly, you could have figure out what to feed crickets if you went to the Resources Tab, or just a quick search on the forums would...
Lights on at least 12 hours. Some people run longer days. No lights at night. Chameleon should be fine at night as long as temps are 55°F or above. You will need two lights; UVB bulb (the long tubes T8 or T5) and a basking light (a regular incandescent bulb will work, or a halogen bulb). You...
Haha must have been a nice surprise! I believe that not all grasshoppers need a diapause. I'm not 100% sure on that though. Do you know what kind of grasshopper you had?
Does anybody with experienced in grasshoppers know how long could their eggs be in diapause? For example, I know that silkworm eggs can be kept in the fridge for up to 6 months (according to some people) even when they only need to be in diapause for 2-3 months. Is this the same case with...
Has anybody been successful at keeping green anoles? I'm looking for a caresheet since the ones I have seen online all have different information.
1) What UVB bulb is best for them? (5.0/6% or 10.0/12%)
2) What should the temperature of the banking spot be?
3) Around how many crickets/roaches...
