Why are CFL UVBs bad for chams eyes?

I thought I read that whatever the issue that was causing problems with chameleons' eyes was resolved. I might have read that in this forum. If I'm wrong then I'm sure someone will correct me haha

Mantis Ooths. What do you do with these things?

I'm thinking of doing that and see what I find. I've seen 2 or 3 different types of grasshoppers here, but haven't had much luck finding katydids. I know there are katydids in central Texas but I just haven't seen found them. Luckily, I have one or two 10 gallon terrariums laying around.

Mantis Ooths. What do you do with these things?

What size is that terrarium you're using to house those grasshoppers and katydids?

    Spanish Isopods

Care for them is similar to other isopods. Give them substrate and leaf litter. Coco fiber is probably the best and give them dead dry hardwood leaves (oak, maple, magnolia). They prefer their substrate on the dry side, but make sure you keep a moist side. Also provide more ventilation than you...

    New staple feeders?

I thought discoid roaches were legal in Florida because they had already established there. I believe they're native to South America.

BSFL and BSF. Two in one!

    Bug Talk!

Discoids do not fly nor climb smooth surfaces. Surinams do not fly and only adults and large nymphs can climb smooth surfaces. Green bananas only the adults fly and climb smooth surfaces. Green banana adults are good fliers by the way.

    Spanish Isopods

Giant canyon seem to be more hardy and the Spanish isopods a little more delicate. I keep my giant canyons in moist substrate and with a couple of holes for ventilation and they are reproducing well. I also have some of them in my surinam bin and once that bin dried out, then stayed bone dry for...

    Spanish Isopods

Yeah, it will take time but hopefully one day. Yeah, Spanish isopods have very specific care requirements that I would be sad/mad if I lost an expensive colony. I've heard they need plenty of room and good airflow ventilation. Also, they seem to like it their substrate dry, with a moist side of...

    Spanish Isopods

Well the thing within this hobby is that nobody wants to try anything new, which is understandable. So, I doubt anyone would use them down the road. Maybe you'll be a pioneer lol. But I agree with you, they are underrated since they are high in calcium, gutloadable, and very easy to care for...

    Spanish Isopods

Porcellio scaber "orange" or the Spanish orange doesn't get big and reproduces very slow. They are smaller than giant canyons. I think you're talking about Porcellio sp. Seville and Porcellio expansus. I know P. Seville is quite prolific but like you said they are expensive so if you want a...

    Bug Talk!

To the OP, aren't you in Florida? You're gonna have a hard time getting roaches since most are illegal to shipped/own in your state. I believe some of the feeder roaches that are legal in Florida are Blaberus discoidalis (discoids), Pycnoscelus surinamensis (surinams), and Panchlora nivea (green...

    DIY roach bridge feeder

I like your idea, hopefully it works out! The only thing that I would worry (if you don't want roaches/crickets getting out) is that some feeders could go to the end of the branch, the one that sticks out of the plastic container, and then jump out. Great idea though!

    Insect Room need advise

@jamest0o0 I've read the same thing on different forums that crickets will just start a colony in their pet's enclosure. I think it would be awesome to use for variety. I could envision needing like 15-30 per week so it would be nice to have a small colony going without needing to clean every...

    Insect Room need advise

That's a great video and you are having great luck with them, congrats! I'm wondering if it would be possible to have a cricket colony in one bin with substrate and cleaning crews, just like James was mentioning

    New and Doing HW

Ok, I realized I said "just Google on the forums" haha. I meant just look up in the forums. Orange heads do not climb up smooth surfaces and do not fly. The only downside to them is that they have a defensive odor when disturbed. So when you go to get some or feed them you will probably smell...

    New and Doing HW

I would look into orange heads instead of dubia. They're more active and for some reason some chameleons seem to get bored or not like dubia at all. Just Google on the forums how many people come and ask why their chameleon hates dubias. Having said that, it doesn't mean that your chameleon will...

    New and Doing HW

Just an FYI, green banana roaches climb smooth surfaces and are good fliers. They are small and can basically squeeze through little crevices and spaces. They could easily escape and end up in your wife's head when she's sleeping and then she'll hate you for that haha. Be careful if you go with them
