When my first chameleon died I could not believe how sad I was. He was not a "people cham", he was ornery and mean and every time I could get him to hand feed or climb on my hand to go outside I felt I had really done something! Regardless, he was my pet and seeing the empty cage without his...
As Carol5208 said you can take her to a vet to get a shot to induce her to lay. If you want to try another avenue first, you can take a large garbage can or bin that she can't climb out of, fill it with dirt or sand and basically make a giant lay bin. You can dig a starter hole and place her...
I can't really see her that well but from the size of her relative to the 8" wide bucket she is definitely older than 4 months. Do you have substrate on the bottom of the cage that she is digging in? She may like the privacy- hold a branch out to her and see if you can get her to climb on it...
If she is passing urates then she is probably pooping as well. At that age the poop can hide from you, it may be in a plant. You can use a drop of oil on a feeder, hornworms also get things moving.... But I wouldn't worry about it too much at this point. One of my boys only poops once every...
My female always reduces her food intake when she is about to lay. I would keep putting her into the bin. I cover the cage with a sheet also just to give her extra privacy.
My veiled won't eat anything that isn't moving... The space between the eyes is a good indicator for the width of food they can handle safely. Small hornworms and silkworms are great for them. Many chams won't drink in front of you- she may be drinking off the leaves after you leave. As...
No, half past gin o'clock is in the late morning. Wine-thirty is a much more civilized afternoon time... Unless it involves a mimosa. Mimosa-thirty is at dawn.
He won't be on the floor of the cage and it is easier to clean the bottom without a substrate. Not saying a substrate will kill him, you'll have to decide what works for you. I'd leave him alone tonight and give him his hornworm treat in the morning.
I'd lose the substrate, but otherwise sounds good. I use Arcadia lighting and have been very pleased. Veiled chams are awesome, they have such a personality.
Post pics of your new guy!
Cricket bites aside, if you dump 100 crickets at a time in the cage after the first day the nutrition is worthless. Think about it, no gut load, dust is gone; you are leaving your chameleon to eat basically an empty shell.
Outdoor sun is awesome for chams, the benefit of the UV definitely outweighs any stress from taking him outside. That said, most chameleons are not comfortable going on walks. They are arboreal, and trees don't move... I think getting your chameleon willing to come onto your hand to take to...
16x36 is fine for a young cham, an adult veiled will need at least a 24x24x48. I like all of the plants you have and the fact that the basking light is not too close to the branches. What is the plastic dish on the bottom of the cage?
I keep a lay bin in my female's cage at all times. I have a 12" planter filled with washed, damp play sand. You also need more greenery in her cage. The vine leading up to her basking light is too close, that may be how she got burned. If she has had that patch of shed for a month I would...
How old is your female? I don't feed any of my adults daily. I feed every other day. Females do better when they are not overfed, including decreased production of infertile eggs. As long as she has a continuous supply of water such as an automatic mister or dripper she will be fine.
