I was mainly concerned whether he won't be too hot if i enclose it like that? Since temps here are a bit on the higher part of scale recently.. but maybe backside plywood, one side clear plexi and rest screen could work? At least it will be easier to attach branches and stuff..
So, I'm based in middle Europe, Slovakia.
Humidity here is on average about 40-60% if i try to keep it up by using humidifiers in rooms etc, and not using heating that much in winter. Temperature here in flats are about 20-21°C in winter with drops as low as 15°C if i go crazy on opening...
Allright, so i searched everywhere and it's impossible to find dark aluminium mesh here, everything is silver only.. so my first question, is it too bad with silver aluminium screen? Second, can i possibly get a glavanized screen and paint it black? Is there some reptile-safe way to do that? And...
Yes of course, but won't his nails catch it anyway as it would be almost right on the mesh? Also, would getting a plastic mesh be too big problem, i cannot for the life find anything else that's in darker colors..
So i searched more at work today, and only thing i managed to find with correct size and made from metal that's coated in plastic is in GREEN color... I really don't think green would go good with everything inside being green too, and also the cage itself will likely be black with silver...
I quite like the transparent window foil, looks really neat! Might just go that way too. One question though, won't the chameleon rip the plastic when he will try to climb the screen?
Yeah that's a bummer, i want to to go with fully screen one or back side solid only. Maybe a 3mm opening would be the ideal size, no medium bugs out and no snagged toenails.
Oh of course they do, i even sell them at work, but everything has too big openings for me, like 10mm and bigger. I would like to stay around 5mm big opening really.
Would perhaps HDPE plastic one work? Found 5m spool, gauge 5x5mm which is ideal, gray color also good. It should be strong enough, and for top i would go with something different so heat doesnt melt it perhaps?
I need about 5 meters lenght with 1m width, i can get a gray fiberglass mesh with 1.2mm opening for around 2€/m, 10€ total for whole cage since i do not need any more on anything at home i think.
Best cage i can get here goes for about 180€ and it's not even as big as it should be, mine will probably be 55x55x120cm living area, plus a cabinet underneath for roach colony, water supply and waste water storage, food supplements etc.. and i'm still under 120€ with everything included! Then...
I do not have a prime and was hoping to find some screen material under the 20€ mark as the cage is on the budget. Is using fiberglass mesh too bad choice? With gauge of 1.2mm
This one works, thanks! Can't find size of one opening there though, and i cannot order it directly from amazon since shipping here cost me more than the item..
Problem is we do not have those here unfortunately... hours online and found nothing useful, nothing darker shades other than vinyl basic mesh for windows, with gauge of 1.2mm
I will do my best to find some darker shade mesh, but i struggle to find even normal silver one here.. will vinyl screen mesh be too much trouble? The opening size is usually only ~1mm so i guess that's too small.. only one i can get in black
