    Looking for advice on drinking

Out of curiosity, does this community recommend calibrating all gauges out of the box? I never trust any hygrometer until it's had the salt test.

Could use help and guidance - new veiled owner with new rescue

She's shedding. They look SO weird. My geckos and snakes shimmy out of a perfect shed. The frog and toad eat theirs. I thought Jane had fungus when I saw her this morning! About had a heart attack. She still ate for me twice today, and for the first time ever wanted to be sprayed. (Whether that...

    Refrigerate mealworms and waxworms?

I know it's a big no on the waxworms. Cooler temps keep them from growing too fast, but too cold and they end up dying. I have the extras around 60 degrees to slow their growth which is what I've seen recommended and the ones I've been feeding off are in my 80 degree critter room and doing...

And I'm probably going to end up naming her Jane. It's sort of sticking. (From the old SNL skit Point Counterpoint, because that's the look she gives me every single morning. So much disdain. :ROFLMAO: )

    Almost.

Your parents just spent hundreds of dollars on your cham, and according to you will be spending that much more for an upgrade. They really won't take the time, or the small bit of money, to put down a pet you've had in the family for 15 years so it doesn't suffer?

Rescued an adult male Veiled today, advice appreciated

Make sure the previous owners have called and given permission for the vet to speak to you or for records to be released. Most places treat animal health care much like human healthcare - nothing gets released without owner approval. When we did vet checks at a shelter I worked for years ago...

Rescued an adult male Veiled today, advice appreciated

He's lucky you saved him! I just rescued my first cham not long ago, and she was in a similar conditions but not nearly as bad healthwise. I have never seen her drink. She was dehydrated when I got her and I tried the shower trick but she would fall asleep every time. What I did was keep the...

Newbies that never had chameleons, few questions!

Yes, she had pinworms and was dewormed before thanksgiving. Still stinks.

    Help! Crickets everywhere!

If you don't have other pets that roam, glue traps. They'll be unusable for feeding, but at least they won't be everywhere.

I am very pleased to report that her favorite food item is calciworms! :D She goes for them first before supers or waxworms.

Newbies that never had chameleons, few questions!

I would argue about the smell - when I walk in the room I can tell immediately if she's gone to the bathroom. But, it is extremely easy to clean up and once it's out of the cage the odor dissipates quickly. Also, snakes shouldn't smell either if the cage is kept is clean! Reptiles in general...

    Cage Buddies??

Because hermits need between 6 and 12 inches of moist substrate to be able to molt safely and properly. And not just a little bit of substrate - for a couple medium sized crabs you'd need a 20 gallon or larger filled. Substrate in a chameleon enclosure is a big no-no because of the risk of...

Turning a wire rack into a cage?

I'd like to get the drainage tub(s) off the ground so I could put a tap on it and drain it into a small bucket. I have a pretty bad herniated disk, so the less bending and heavy lifting the better.

Turning a wire rack into a cage?

Before I seriously start considering it I wanted to run it past the people here. The shelving unit is 18 x 48 and 72 high. The entire room is heated and there is a floor to ceiling gradient of around 73-85. This is for a female veiled. What I want to do is chloroplast the sides and part of...

80-85. The weather is fluctuating and so is that room. Bin has been in since the end of the first week. I haven't found her low yet and she comes to her feeding spot for her cup feeding every morning still. This being her third set, she should be getting bigger still, right? Previous owner...

Ugh, her timing is just spectacular. I'm thinking for sure now it's eggs? Was hoping to get her back up to speed first! (She still gets exhausted easily. I had to move her cage today to get the 55 gallon that my snake was in out of the room. She got a little tuckered out from the stress and...

Closing one eye and rubbing it

Isn't it supposed to be the ExoTerra Calcium without D3 daily, and then the Reptivite twice a month only?

    Almost.

A vet will be able to tell you for sure if it's just old age, or something else going on. They'll also be able to make sure he isn't going to suffer if it's something that isn't treatable. There is no reason to watch him continue to get worse and starve to death.
