Well, think about it... if he dissected a dozen specimens and made measurements, comparisons, detailed observations -- then I may agree. He's "dissecting" one animal. What is he to learn from it when there is a better source of valuable info -- feedback from those here with lots of experience...
Share as much detail on the light as possible. 250W does not sound like a modern reptilian option. Bioactive setup involves a lot more. We can point in the right direction, but let's address one thing at a time. Although the substrate could be a more pressing issue right now.
Unless you are a trained scientist, there will be little to nothing you'll learn from chopping up your pet. Sorry. I am on the "this is weird" side of the discussion. You'll learn way more by analyzing external factors related to your husbandry and seeking advice.
Hydroballs would be a good drainage layer for a bioactive setup. Using them on their own like this may be a problem, if they are small enough for the chameleon to swallow. Major risk for impaction.
Thank you for messing with me. Now hold my beer, I have to go fire Rio's butler and cancel my Amazon subscription to ultra soft toilet paper. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Definitely female. Even without being able to see the spurs. The vertical line across her body are good indications of a female. Her casque is also relatively small.
Depends on what you consider "coverage." T5 will be more shallow but wider. Mercury Vapor will be more focused, but significantly deeper in terms of usable output.
You did what you could. The hard reality is that the pet trade in general kills many animals. Those that make it are sold and people who keep them often provide poor care and the animal dies, and there is frankly not much we can do about it...
@Ruthless may be confused. What you have is sufficient, as I stated before, because a mercury vapor bulbs produce both UVA and UVB rays. They are similar in function to metal halide, but they have a tendency to sometime degrade faster and can have excessive output initially. That's why a meter...
I noticed our chameleon react to both our dog and the cat. Both are totally harmless and neither can get to him, but he sure notices them. Turns neon green and moves up. That should tell you all you need to know. Keep the two apart.
Solar glow is a mercury vapor bulb. It’s sufficient on its own but you must be able to measure UVB output. Or replace every 6 months. Alternatively, you might want to consider a standard T5 lamp and a basking bulb. Everything else in your husbandry sounds good.
Everyone here seems to think they are junk. I've had one for a while without any issues. I believe they improved the pumps. If you get one, get the bigger model. The small is rather useless as it doesn't hold much water and the pump is too weak, hoses too short if you try to elevate the cage...
