OK. Wasabi update: My little man has officially wormed his way into everyone's heart. My middle daughter actually has a true "bug phobia". But, she's so captivated by Wasabi that she held a hornworm in her bare hand, and fed it to him.
That's when I knew he was really part of the family...
It never ceases to amaze me. I recently started a Red Runner colony. Pixel will eat large ones, but not the biggest ones, which are not too big for him.
However, he has no problem devouring the biggest Mantis you've ever seen, that should really be impossible for him! Just bizarre.
Ok. This quote is posted at the bottom of the homepage:
Chameleons do have taste buds on their tongue but overall they have a poor sense of taste.
If this is true, why (OH WHY!) do they go on hunger strikes? One week, he LOVES hornworms, the next.....
Why won't they eat super fast bugs, that...
Thanks everyone, for the great ideas.
Pixel was awesome! He's an official ambassador for his species.
I put him in his old baby screen cage, with a branch and vines to hold. He rode in the car, seatbelted in, with windows down. (We had rare, warm weather) I wanted him to see where he was...
Thank you so much for the support and great ideas.
@jannb i would never take Wasabi out this young. I was only talking about Pixel. He's big, strong & healthy, plus oh so friendly.
Plus, since the class is so close to my house, I feel better about it.
Thanks, all! I'll let you know if it...
Experts, please let me know your thoughts on this.
My daughters take a biology class for school, and they're now studying reptiles. They really want me to bring Pixel to class to show him off. However, I'm super worried about this.
If anyone has followed my posts, you'll know that Pixel is...
Each morning when I spray Wasabi, I have to cover his feeder cup to keep the water out.
Today, he escaped the rain by running up my sleeve and up under my hair to hide! :ROFLMAO:
He just stayed under there, not moving.
New pic! Wasabi no longer tries to run away when I gently lift him from his vine. He sits calmly on my hand and just looks at me.
Today, he went on an adventure to the top of my head. Being so tiny, he needed a few climbing aids to get there. ;)
@chameleonneeds and @Decadancin, I think I must sound very ignorant in my comments.
I'm completely aware of what these terms mean. I just felt the commentator was reading ridiculous assumptions made without any real research.
If you recall my very first sentence, "i'm no expert."...
I agree. However, my parents have told me the complex in which they live, no longer plants flowers, because the iguanas decimate all of them every year.
My father said officials are now instructing citizens in the "most humane way" to kill iguanas, because they've become such a nuisance...
OK. I am no expert but is it driving anyone else bonkers that they would consider a chameleon, who does nothing but eat bugs(including those nasty palmettos), an invasive species?!
Even a veiled would not eat so much foliage as to cause damage.
My parents live in Florida and the iguanas are...
Actually, I got lucky... They guy I buy my worms from is right in NJ! I recently found him on eBay.
Normally all the babies are DOA, but I got some good ones. Also, we have Pet Goods in NJ. My local store carries HWs.
I can't get the videos uploaded but I put him on Bacha's(my singing dog)...
