Anyone using an Egg Monitor ?

I have so far only tried it with LED light and only on about 20 eggs. With these, I have not noticed any change in the pulse rate, but the number of samples seems to me to be clearly too small to draw any conclusions. I've read that paper, too. :) For reptiles, no study of a limited number of...

    New species found...Calumma lefona

There's some more information and pictures of one of the three described species of this paper, Calumma juliae: https://www.madcham.de/en/calumma-juliae/ A very beautiful small chameleon species, but the habitat known so far is tiny and extremely threatened by deforestation. Unfortunately also...

New chameleon species from Madagascar and news about nasutum complex

I would like to share the following paper with you, on which the first author David Prötzel has been working for years now. It was published in February 2020 and it's really, really worth a read. Untangling the trees: Revision of the Calumma nasutum complex (Squamata: Chamaeleonidae) Authors...

    Heat + Humidity = RI ??

That's completely ok! Thank you for the compliments, I am very happy if the website benefits people (and chameleons).

    Heat + Humidity = RI ??

Maybe I can clear this up. The original article was written by me, but around 2010. This article was posted on the rebuilt website in 2014. In 2019, I finally found time to rework the article completely, making it "invisible" to users for a few days, but not changing the original uploading date...

Anyone using an Egg Monitor ?

For those of you who are interested: I have since written a short article on the Egg Monitor. I would still be happy about the experiences of other chameleon keepers! https://www.madcham.de/en/nutzung-eines-egg-monitor/

    Stick insects as feeder?

It usually takes a moment until chameleons realize stick insects as food. But then they seem to taste very good, despite the secretions. I have been using them for years as one of many regular feeders. Pay attention to what species you want to buy. Some reproduce very quickly (3-4 months)...

    Chameleon skeletons

Yes! I built in a scale. But it's a bit difficult because the skeleton wasn't photographed exactly from the side, but a little bit sloped. For a better idea: The orbit is about 2 cm wide. I'm glad you like it! Yes. Chameleons' teeth are acrodont, i.e. the teeth sit vertically on the jawbone...

Anyone using an Egg Monitor ?

Hi everybody, I have been using the Egg Monitor Buddy Mk2 by Avitronics for a long time to measure the pulse rate in eggs, most recently on two Calumma parsonii parsonii clutches. I've only found two, three breeders who have experience with it or have used the Egg Monitor before. It's a UK...

    Chameleon skeletons

I don't think I've posted that skeleton yet. A female Calumma parsonii parsonii, matching the male a posting above.

    Chameleon skeletons

It has been a long while since I've posted the last skeleton, so here's one from the time inbetween. It's a large Calumma parsonii parsonii male. Sadly, he died at the age of two or three years due to a massive gout (probably caused by overfeeding). Remember... It's not size that matters but health.

    Chameleon skeletons

More than one year ago since I've posted the last picture. This is an older skeleton, but I still like it very much. A Kinyongia xenorhina male, note the strange nose appendage this species has. It looks like two flat nose appendages glued together.

Searchin for rare Chameleons in Madagascar

I was on the same expedition this year, and it just was great. <3 Madagascar is such an incredible place for chameleons (and reptiles in general, of cause). Ranomafana's rainforests were a little rainy, thus we weren't so lucky during daytime. But in the night we could find lots of animals along...

    UV-B-indices from Madagascar

I think there is a misunderstanding, and I hope my English's good enough to explain. At least I'll try :). The highest UVI on Earth is surely not 8,0. I and several other people measured UVIs of 12 in Madagascar, and I'm quite sure it's not the highest possible value - but said that, it's only...

    UV-B-indices from Madagascar

Hi Nick, Sarina from www.licht-im-terrarium.de is physicist and answers your exact question on her website, so I'll try to translate it: Yes, you can convert UVI into µW/cm², UVI=1 corresponds to 2.5µW/cm². But be careful, because the number you get via converting is smaller than the µW/cm²...

    UV-B-indices from Madagascar

Finally, after several months of work, the UV-B-indexes I measured all around Madagascar are online at www.madcham.com . The less nice thing is, the website's still only available in German - but even google translator can help for sure. You can use the "search" function top right to look for a...

    Madagascar travelogue

Hi everyone, I've been in Madagascar again this year, at the Eastcoast (Marojejy, Masoala/Nosy Mangabe, Akanin'ny Nofy, Sambava, Maroantsetra...) and took a lot of pictures. And of cause I wrote some kind of diary about sightings, found chameleons and so on. And nooooow translation is...
