Biting /trying to eat paper towels

When I first started keeping chameleons it was not well known that veileds like veggies, at least outside of the "in crowd" which I wasn't a part of. I had a plantain lily in his cage, and I could never understand why the flower never bloomed. I realized one day it was because he was actually...

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

This morning both eyes were open and he was behaving pretty normally. I'm going to give him another long mist today and keep an eye on things. I think we're likely dealing with one or 2 possibilities- debris in the eye not being flushed and/or long term husbandry conditions that might have led...

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

I'm looking forward to nicer weather so I can put his cage outside. He's near a patio door and I can easily move the whole cage out to the deck for some great exposure.

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

LOL here in the pac NW ambient temps are in the mid 50s with almost no sun and all rain right now. But I can back off the UVB and see what happens. THanks for the suggestions.

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

I guess I will do that. Unfortunately the vets around here are not cham specialist and aren't always useful. I have an appt tomorrow at noon. We'll see.

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

When I adopted him he came with a new Reptisun 24" 5.0 tube. It's on for about 13 hours per day along with the heat light. Both are positioned 6-12" from basking positions. Multivitamins are what came with him as well. A Reptivite product. I've only had him for a month, so I've only used it a...

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

This is suddenly escalating quickly. Up to last night he was still opening the eye regularly and it looked mostly normal. Today I haven't seen him open it (this morning before I left and now since I've been home) and it's sunken. I have him a 3-4 minute mist and altered the schedule for that to...

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

I think you're right and I've never been concerned about a healthy chameleon missing a few days of food. It was one way I used to keep my veileds healthy many years ago. BTW I don't have a real dubia "colony." I just bought a few dozen from a local breeder and a handful were the winged males. He...

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

I'll give that a shot, thanks for the suggestion. Since I've had him (about a month) it's been mostly crickets and a few superworms. Probably 4 crix/day and 2 superworms, but recently (past week or so) he's not at all interested in crickets. He only eats the superworms :/ . I've been feeding...

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

Sure. He has an Aquazamp power mister that comes on I think 5x day for just a minute (or less) each time. It puts out a tremendous amount of water so I keep the duration short. I end up with a fair bit of water (probably 16 oz) I have to eliminate each day in the drip pans. I've never seen him...

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

I can when I get home later today. It's only 10:30 AM here and I won't be home until about 4:30.

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

Well 4 days of antibiotic drops and he's not really any better. His eye appears to be a bit less swollen, but he's got it closed more frequently than ever. Activity level is still fairly normal and he is eating and drinking. No wheezing or gaping.

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

Bearing in mind that I've only had him for less than one month, I can't remember the brands of supplements (I'm not home now). There's a calcium and a multi vitamin powder, both of which were part of the package I obtained from the previous owner when I adopted him. I haven't settled on a proper...

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

$89 at the vet today for Michi (I figure it's nice for others to know what the cost range is for various vets for various services). She was unable to make a clear diagnosis but was happy that he seemed in very good health otherwise and that the problem was not in both eyes. No obvious sign of...

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

I have indeed looked that closely and noticed those symptoms. However, I have very little knowledge of cham illnesses and their treatments. It seems the consensus is "go to the vet" for any problem like this. I'm hoping I caught this early enough to help him. I only adopted him a few weeks ago.

    Another Swollen Eye Situation

His left eye, the lid is puffy around the actual eyeball and he's been closing the eye a lot. I think I'm seeing a bit of decreased activity too. Any remedies recommended before the vet?

I wonder how many can say this?

A few days ago I opened Michi's cage and he climbed down and out onto my shoulder completely of his own accord. Then my daughters held him for a few minutes, at which point he decided to poop. LOL. Apparently he was just looking for a nice comfy spot to do his business.

    Praying mantis eggs

When you say you have "14 eggs" do you mean you have 14 *ooths?* Mantids lay their eggs in a large batch that hardens up and looks like a big gray blob. Inside are dozens or hundreds of actual eggs. Hatching them just means putting them in a container that the nymphs can't escape from when they...

"How old is a 9 month old panther supposed to be?" Wait! I know this one! A 9 month old panther should be 9 months old. What do I win?
