Just dust every day with plain Calcium, twice a month with D3 Calcium, and twice a month with a multivitamin. Also, what model of uvb lamp are you using, what kind is it, and when did you get it?
Tuesday, July 4th
Happy 4th! No progress was made today except going to to the store for some tape, screen, and wood. Tomorrow we will go to the hydroponics store to get sunshine mix 4, a bulkhead (maybe), and the drainage layer.
I think the development of the casque and possible curvature of one of the back legs certainly points toward it. Could you post your supplementation, feeding, and lighting schedules, as well as your lighting setup and pics of the cage, please?
1. UVB from sunlight will not filter through glass, it would only serve to warm the cage. 2 Natural, unfiltered sunlight is a great thing, but only if the cham will permit you to take him out. Always supervise. 3. Refer to Q1, try using a heat bulb, there are many ways, just make sure the cham...
I think you need more light for a hibiscus. Also if it's ambient 80-90 that is too high. 80-90 is the basking spot temp for an adult male Veiled, and 90 is pushing it. He needs ambient temps of about 70-75 if he's going to be in the same spot all day. Also, he needs more plants and vines to...
Hibiscus plants are pretty hard to keep but very cool (just like chams ;)) imo. As long as he isn't getting impacted, still eating bugs, and the hibiscus is clean, he should be fine eating flowers/ leaves. As far as the lighting portion goes, some people can have two hibiscus with one outside...
Sunday, July 2nd
It's already July! I am back from my trip and I know now what I will do to finish the cage. I will add the substrate in so the cage is complete, but not the micro fauna, so the substrate can get settled a bit. I may or may not be able to get the cage done by Saturday, which is...
It's either bioactive substrate or no substrate. Unless the substrate serves a non aesthetic purpose, it is just something else for the chameleon to eat and get impacted. If you want to do a bioactive substrate, though, I recommend sunshine mix #4.
Yes like tortdad said they're super expensive. Where I live A. Vulgare are super common, but online they're like 17$ for 15! I picked up about 50 in fifteen minutes in my garden! Check under rocks, that's where I find them.
Only the Nepenthes pitcher plants are tropical, and thus do not need to be hibernated. Sarracenia, on the other hand, are American plants, and needs to be hibernated, much like Venus flytraps.
I haven't really seen that many choking cases on this forum but when I searched it all of them described white/black colors with mouth open and head swinging violently.
Venus flytraps can only catch as many bugs as they have traps, which is not a lot in most cases. Most carnivorous plants also must be hibernated. A Nepenthes species pitcher plant will catch any type of bug as long as it has pitchers available and will not need to be hibernated as they are...
