My male Xanth has stuck Shed around his casque. I was able to get his nasal passages clear, but the casque area seems fairly stuck and I don't want to scrape him up. Should I work on removing the stuck shed or should I leave it? My female has no issues, it seems the males horns are what have...
I'll get some pictures tomorrow.
One thing I've noticed is that I'm not chasing humidity like others have per threads and videos I've watched. It seems that a lot of people run a hudmifer/fogger 24 hours a day. In my case I spray the chams down every few hours for a minute just to get the...
Chameleon Log Day 33:
Everything is going swimmingly. I was planning on ordering some DragonStand hatchling enclosures this new year, but they are out of stock. Seems like I will be doing some DIY'ing to make my own.
All neonates are eating and seem to be drinking. I do get some odd orange...
If you go with the MistKing Cham nozzles they basically do the same as the cup method above, but also provide some mist to the enclosure as well. For all my adults I exclusively use them and they work great!
You mentioned you have two enclosures available. You have two that are unused by the panther you already have?
You are correct that they need cooler temps, preferably a drop in the low 60's at night. Some people have great weather to keep them out doors, butbothers have seasons that they keep...
The color on that Xanth male is awesome!
What info are you looking for? I'm surprised that they are Hawaiian's as I had been reading that the islands had stopped the export of them to prevent them from getting on the wrong plane and inhabiting other Hawaiian islands that they didn't already...
Closest thing to a natural sauna would be a hot spring.
I think what you're doing right now is more than sufficient. Now that you have responses to the sauna question, I think you have your answer if it ever came up in conversation :)
I'd be concerned about overheating. Sauna/steam rooms are generally high heat as well as high humidity. As @MissSkittles stated, cool mist is more so the solution. That said though, a confined space and a fogger filling that space like a smoke machine wouldn't be ideal either.
When it comes to...
Keep in mind these little ones are fragile! I'm learning this firsthand with my clutch of babies.
What does her enclosure look like so far? Maybe we can help you get on the right track so she can heal in a safe place.
That's one heck of a bite! I'd look to see if you can find a local vet who deals with reptiles, this might be hard on the islands as 90% of the exotic reptiles on the market are banned from the islands to prevent eacapee's/released destructive species. The main thing you want to do is make sure...
I'm not sold on them as all they do is recirculate water. This in the end means a lot of bacteria can have access to it.
You're better off with an external dripper.
Welcome!
One thing I've noticed is that it looks like you may be running a CFL UVB bulb. Many of us recommend swapping from that bulb to a T5 UVB unit in order to provide spread access of UVB as it's been found that the CFL's provide 'hotspots' of focused UVB which can be dangerous to the chams.
I would say that size is way too small for any Triceros. Adults should be in 18x18x36 (in inches) enclosures per animal. I've spent a long time trying to figure out how to keep females together of Jackson's and unless the enclosure is a large greenhouse with multiple trees that are at least...
Chameleon Log Day 16:
Everything is going swimmingly as of the split of the group. These guys are still plowing through twice daily feedings of fruitflies. I'd like to know more from anyone who has successfully raised the neonates to know more about growth speed. Right now I'm noticing round...
I've got a couple of these. The issue I run into with any of these type of thermostats are their trigger thresholds. What I always recommend for anyone using these, hydro farm, or jumpstart thermostats are that they test them out with a calibrated thermometer. If the threshold for on/off is more...
As the life cycle of fruitflies basically are to mate, lay eggs, feed at larval stage and then pupate to start over, has anyone found a reliable way of gutloading them? I'm currently raising them on Josh's Frogs diet, but wasn't sure if there was a nutritional powder I could coat them with prior...
