The mats range in various dimensions, so there is no one single size. I would recommend getting one to cover 3/4 of the base of your colony container though.
I currently have mine on carpet and have zero issues.
I've got a slew of various thermostats I've used for seedling pads. Jump-starts are fine.
As for the temp, yes you can get those heat pads pretty damn hot.
I use this stuff exclusively for my ball python's and I have to say it's wonderful when controlled correctly. I would HIGHLY suggest getting a pulse style thermostat in order to keep temps regular otherwise you will have too high of a flux of on/off temps (some people have noticed 10-12 degree...
One thing I just noticed this morning while washing out my dusting cup was that Repashy LoD turns the same orange as the discharge I saw when exposed to water. I wonder if my dusting schedule for them is just too much?
I'm trying to find ways to keep these guys safe and happy.
One thing I've noticed are that there are a few who 'crawl' up the sides aimlessly and get nowhere. I've added more fake vines in those areas so they can walk, but I'm keeping a 4-5" gap between the screen and the plant. This is some...
Very true, I just found 10 days to be somewhat fairly long for juveniles/babies of a species that is notoriously known for being difficult at this stage.
One concern I have is that I've not seen gaping (in the means of trying to cool themselves) nor have I seen any other signs of dehydration...
I left my lights off for the first day for two reasons:
1 - I needed to kill pests, so I wanted as little CO2 => O2 conversion as possible
2 - Plants still create some (very minimal) O2 in the presence of an over abundance of CO2, just not efficiently without light (key the 'photo' in...
One thing about bioactive setups are that they are not self sufficient. No matter what anyone says, a Cham bioactive enclosure will never get enough nutrients from Cham poop. The fact you're adding frass makes a biiiiiiig difference.
You mean CO2 not CO right? I used to do a quarterly CO2 on...
One thing that can be done that's easy is replant any plants purchased with earthworm castings. They are organic and heavy with nutrients. While repotting place some osmocote in layers of the soil without leaving any on the surface.
Sadly yesterday was the first day of a loss of one of my recent Xanth babies from my recent litter. Upon checking everyone this afternoon it seems I lost another. This time I found the little one clinging on life with a slight orange discharge from it's rear.
Rather than go through the form...
If you're Cham is having an issue with a spray down then it won't matter if you're doing it or an auto system is doing it. What I've found works in these situations are the rain nozzles that are made for MistKing setups. They are a standard nozzle that are arranged differently and mounted on the...
Chameleon Log Day 10:
The little ones are still ferociously eating to the point I had to put my Josh's Frogs order in to get everything to ramp up the fruitfly cultures. So right now I'm feeding about what 4 cultures can produce daily (so imagine an 1/8th of a cup full of flightless...
Sadly the answer is no. A UVB T5 is there to help with Calcium D3 production where the rest of the lighting is used for daylight 'heat' spots and for plant growth. There are not currently any full spectrum bulbs on the market that produce the correct UVB and in the amount necessary to be a UVB...
Issue I have in a rack are that the heat source needs to be slim (in height), not radiate a ton of excess heat from the heat sinks of the device (as the base of other enclosures are above them), and need to be ok with humidity/minimal moisture contact (due to cham rain nozzles on MistKing...
