I'm going to cautiously agree with you, though I only have one chameleon so far, but I just set up a second enclosure to get another. I've been nervous before buying each reptile or amphibian I've ever had, and so far at least, it has always turned out easier than I expected, especially reading...
Sorry for your loss. Your description plus the photos made me cry. It was poetic that his last moments were with you holding him with the sun on his back.
The banded crickets I get from Josh's Frogs don't smell bad. All the other crickets I've purchased smell terrible. My GF has had this same experience including the banded crickets being much hardier than other varieties.
I bought a jungle theme shower curtain to cover two sides on my screen cage. It was $14 on amazon. It actually makes a pretty nice looking background. There are a lot of different ones available.
Their crickets don't smell either. I guess because they're the banded variety. I bought some from LLL Reptile that smell terrible after a few days. I'm going back to ordering from Josh's Frogs (it's cheaper too).
I just got him a few days ago. He's "medium" size so not sure how old (6 months?). I've seen him hanging out by the feeder even after I turned the lights out. Here he is drinking:
I got a Jackson's chameleon and so far I haven't seen him eat at all (I've watched him drink a few times). I set up a homemade feeder using a milk jug and piece of screen for the insects to climb on but he never goes after the food. However, the crickets and dubias keep disappearing and I'm not...
What do you think of this light placement? I have the 5.0 UVB along the right side of the cage instead of going across. Immediately to the left is the heat bulb which is 43 watt. To the left of that is a 23 watt 6500K bulb. Is it best to provide a UVB side of the enclosure and a side without UVB?
Maybe they could at least include the 26W UVB 10.0 compact bulb. It's probably all about keeping the price down. You can get a T8 fixture for $10 at wall-mart, so maybe have one of those and a UVB 10.0 T8 bulb which would still be cheap to include. How about a water collection tub in the bottom...
I have mine set to about 91 on average (at about 10"). The dimmer switch is about the 3/4 of the way up. It got up to 97 when turned all the way up though my room was pretty warm when testing it.
Actually you can have the bulb over a screen top. That's the way I have mine. They really don't get terribly hot (though you do need a method to regulate the temp obviously). She put hers inside the enclosure because she's using a wooden vivarium, but she had one over her screen top with a...
Just wondering if anyone has tried using an Arcadia deep heat projector on a chameleon's basking spot. Arcadia claims that it "mimics heat from the sun and provides heat deep into the muscle tissue" and it projects infrared A and B. I bought one for my leopard gecko and I've noticed that he's...
Do you use calcium without D3 in addition to the LoD Repashy? Or just simply LoD a couple times per week.
I currently have Repashy Calcium Plus and Zoomed Repti Calcium without D3. I was thinking of using the zoomed each feeding and the Repashy every 2 weeks. I am now rethinking that and maybe...
