I had planned on taking it completely out of the pot it comes in, cleaning all of the leaves and roots thoroughly, and replanting in my own soil mixture (made up per the DIY soil blog). The lady, however, made it sound like I needed to allow it to grow in the new soil and be watered for a few...
So...I found a really nice Umbrella Plant (nice light colors, already filled out and can tailor to fit as needed) but the lady at the greenhouse brought up a good point I forgot (apparently she has a friend who is big into raising reptiles): buying from a greenhouse that has plants shipped in...
Stopping by a greenhouse on the way home today and was wondering what the best single plant would be for an 18x24x36 enclosure? I will be decorating the enclosure with fake vines, leaves, and sandblasted branches, but I want the plant (which will be planted in a bio-active soil setup) to be tall...
I lucked out...I had saved all of my 75w incandescent bulbs after my Panther passed away last year. So I have 10. Will just shop around for more as time goes. Thanks!
So I am in the process of getting everything together per the blog you posted. And I will be making my own soil based on the four parts they outlined. However, I am having trouble understanding how well the window screen option works as a barrier since one part of the soil being used is...
Just ordered the new UVB lighting for my setup (Arcadia T5 HO 6%, single housing) and now working on the basking lamp. I know 75w Incandescent is the ideal solution...but it seems they are very hard to come by now a days. I can find a few offerings on Amazon but recent reviews say they are not...
Oooo, that sounds like an easy idea. Would I be able to get away with a once a week siphon for ease of use (just do it when I am cleaning the cage and refilling my mister reservoir, etc)?
Thanks, but I don't have much room to work with (it is a 36"x18" footprint cage).
Is drilling a small hole to fit like a 1/4" drain port in glass that hard to do in glass?
So I found someone local with the perfect sized terrarium that they never used but it is a glass/screen mixture. The bottom and 8" high up the sides is all glass (waterproof), with a glass back and then half screen/half glass sides and screen top.
I was planning on doing a planted bottom per...
Thanks, I wasn't getting a good vibe from their site.
I have had a veiled and a panther before. This setup will be from scratch so I can make the enclosure and requirements to whatever is needed.
Hey all,
So I decided that for my new chameleon adventure, I would like to get a Carpet or Pygmy chameleon, mainly due to using a slightly smaller enclosure due to space issue with my new place. Looking around, however, and it seems carpet or pygmy's are sold out rather quick with the reputable...
Hey all,
Been away from the forums for a while. My Panther chameleon died a last Spring 2019 and I took a break from the hobby. But I have now found myself wanting a chameleon friend again. I will be starting from scratch for the enclosure, so I had an idea I was hoping for input on.
I am...
Just an update.
Ares is healing fine. He LOVED getting the Mecca ointment put on. Literally just laid on my forearm and didn't budge a muscle everytime I put it in.
New bulb setup is done. He seems to like it better.
Also pretty sure I know why he burnt himself. I had the ceiling fan off last...
Ordered a new slimline T5 HO fixture + T5 HO 5.0 UVB bulb so I can now fit a standard Dome with an Incandescent bulb (will try 75w first, then 100w if needed).
Also, going to put a little Mecca ointment on the burn. It's a Canadian OTC for minor burns. Active ingredients are Phenol, Camphor...
Thanks all. I'll move things around to accommodate a normal incandescent bulb and dome in the next few days. And look at a solar meter.
Regarding ointment, is there any risk of him trying to "lick" it off like a normal pet might or will he likely not even notice or care?
Thanks!
Just put in 25w bulbs. Will measure Temps as they warm up.
I have a place holder appointment with my reptile vet for Monday afternoon just in case the burn gets infected or doesn't get better. Over the weekend is there anything special I should do? Is cleaning it with some peroxide...
