Hey all,
As some may have seen, I was having health issues with my Veiled Chameleon, Horatio, over Thanksgiving and he passed away Saturday (awaiting autopsy results to know for sure what happened). Come the new year, the misses and I want to get a proper Panther Chameleon from a forum sponser...
Small update:
I called the emergency vet today to update them on what happened and they told me that Dr. Tim (the exotic pet vet I had first seen) does autopsies for free so he can educate himself on unique presentations to tailor his approach going forward. I have been keeping Horatio in our...
Thank you.
Honestly, from everyone on here giving advice and looking back on it, I would suspect maybe an intestinal blockage. His progressing symptoms fit what would happen in a human and one of the fake vines has small leaves that if he shot a cricket just right might have become dislodged...
I appreciate it but Horatio has passed. My fiancee and I took him out to lay with us and he stopped breathing peacefully on his own.
Going forward with my reptiles (we do plan on getting another chameleon but I will be doing things better/differently this time), I am going to do routine...
He seems to have taken a turn for the worse overnight. While he did excrete bright white urate, he didn't have enough strength to even move into his basking spot this morning so when the misters came on he was cold and wet. I took him out, held him, force fed a little water, put him back in in...
Will do on the tests. We are also Googling more Chameleon specific vets but I don't live in a big city (Toledo, OH) so the first vet is the most renowned we have but obviously not specific on chameleon knowledge. I know he will order/do what we ask though.
Is there a technique I can use to...
The vet did say 150 to 200 grams is normal...but I wasn't sure at what age they should be this weight since he is only 10 months old and did have a very sick infancy.
I had this thought but since he passed the two Superworms almost intact, I assumed there was no way he could have a blockage.
That's why I came on here...to get some input on what tests to ask for/consider.
While no one can give me concrete medical advice or confidence...as long as I can keep him hydrated and keep some of the Carnivore Care down, do you think he can make it comfortably until Tuesday when I can get...
Regarding using UVB 10.0: I chose 10.0 based on the top mesh being very tightly woven.
Regarding the fecal test: when we were to followup this week the original vet (exotic one) was going to do one regardless. He more or less wanted to see how the Carnivore Care did over the holidays plus we...
Thanks!
I will go take a pic of him now and attach a previous pic when he was "healthy".
The room temperature fluctuates from 68 in the winter to 72 in the summer but never higher or lower. The temperature in the highest parts of the cage (outside of the basking spot) is around 80 degrees and...
Hey all,
New to these forums but not new to reptile husbandry (have two 3yr old Leopard Geckos and a 1yr old Leopard Gecko). My fiancee and I adopted a severely malnourished Veiled Chameleon, Horatio, from PetSmart that was returned last February (2months old at that time) and nursed him back...
