While I concede there may be a few who won't drink from a cup, all chameleons will recognize droplets on leaves. Regardless of whether they come from mist or a dripper, it does not matter. Misting is *a* way to hydrate chameleons, not *the* way.
Over misting in an attempt to hydrate can cause...
Not really, no. It's more about fixing the underlying factors.
Just my 2 cents, Veilds do not need to be misted into oblivion. Remember, they are native to Yemen. Check the weather there, get an idea of what humidity they deal with. I misted mine once a day, as long as they have a dropped or...
My recommendations:
1) At the very least he needs an XL Reptibreeze. I keep my adults in large bird cages, even.
2) When is the last time the cage was fully washed? I would suggest taking him out, rinsing the cage and vines with hot water, then an antibacterial cleaner, then rinse again and...
I typically feed my crickets right before I shut the lights out. The logic is that there's 12 hours or so for the gutload to work its way into the feeder and be good for the chameleons in the morning.
I've dropped my chams onto hardwood, carpet, grass, etc. Even saw one at a pet shop fall onto tile. First time I held a hatchling I dropped it lol. No harm has ever been done, of course none have been higher than 5-6 feet.
Doubt there's a problem with the legs, screen cages have metal frames...
Definitely change your staple feeder to crickets or roaches. You can't have a cham eating mealworms day in and day out, it's not good for their nutrition or their insides.
I feed mine every day until a year old, as much as they want to eat typically. They can go on hunger strikes if they're...
My girl loved bird ladders. She did like to climb through them though and ended up actually separating a few rungs. Something to keep an eye on at first, as they could possibly get stuck.
I have a 5 gallon bucket (any hardware store for $2) that I use to soak fake vines, branches etc in. Usually I'll use a bit of bleach and water and let it sit for 5-10 mins. Then I rinse the vines well and let them soak in a clean bucket of only water (sometimes I'll add some dish soap as well...
Is there any food in sight? My female would pace the bottom if I left crickets anywhere she could see them. I would also make sure her basking spot is to her liking. Try adding a few different levels, thicknesses of branches, etc.
I have kept Yemen and Panthers in large birdcages. About 4 foot tall by 2 foot deep and 4 feet wide. My guys seem to love it. You have to tub feed, but it's much easier to mount things onto it and much more durable than a screen.
The only real con was one of my Yemen males would try to push his...
He looks good, but his casque looks pretty underdeveloped. It's possible he didn't get proper nutrition and/or lighting when he was a baby. With that in mind, I would suggest being very vigilant with the amount of UVB he gets and also that he gets plenty of calcium and vitamins.
He does sound...
If she was found outside and layed outside, I would leave them be. Study the incubation temps and keep some kind of thermometer in the dirt.
On the other hand, how many eggs are there? You could take a couple out to incubate in a controlled climate and leave some in their 'natural'...
My female was also on the small side and became egg bound. Be patient and wait for her first infertile clutch. See how she handles it and become familiar with the process before you fertilize the eggs.
Breeding early will start ger cycle, possibly before her body is ready for eggs. Just my .02
Really? I completely disagree with this. Chameleons only become more cage aggressive and defensive when not handled regularly. This has been the same in my experience with any of my reptiles.
